The New MX-5 Could there be truth in it?

I hear a new MX-5 is coming, apparently its a bigger engine with more economy a hybrid, slightly longer, interesting, never seen a picture (only fake ones)

I came across a report and they have gave out a few indicators of what could be coming..

If you know any more information please feel free to add to this mystery :sparkles:

Or even some pictures hmmm

I seen a few of these maybe close to the truth, who knows :man_shrugging:

2026 Mazda MX-5 (Next Generation)

Electrification:
Mazda has confirmed the next-generation MX-5 will be electrified, but the specific form (fully electric, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid) is not yet known.

Redesign:
It will be a complete redesign, showcasing Mazda’s latest styling and engineering advancements, while staying true to the Miata’s core principles.

Development:
The new model is being developed with the original design principles in mind, rather than just iterating on the current version.

I don’t think they have.

Every time there’s an incremental refresh (ND2 to ND3) for example the clickbait internet goes into overdrive.

One equally credible option is that it will feature the 2.5L e-hybrid power train as fitted to the Mazda 3.

I suppose that electrification is a part of that, not the headline though.

We’ll know when we know.

Pie in the sky hay, such a tease well I will keep a close eye on it! all good things come to those who wait, and have more money than sense

Essentially, what Ian said abouve^

Mind you regarding

I wouldn’t put the bank on that. The year is 2025, and I must admit I can’t recall a car of late which ended up being all good things coming to those who wait. They’ve either been deleted/binned, made auto only, some hybrid stuffed on them, made uglier etc etc

I love MX-5 nevertheless, cant stand EV cars or hybrids I know that much, I was simply starting a discussion, on the so called new MX-5.

But I do like the new Renault 5 Turbo (the high end over the top model) thats the only EV car I like :+1: in terms of modern cars.

Not that I could afford one

Reminds me of a video!

NA - 8 years
NB - 7 years
NC - 10 years
ND - 10 years so far and no sign of a replacement.

A purely ICE replacement would be banished from production in 2030, hybrid in 2035.

I can see the ND going through further mild tweaks for a while yet until EV infrastructure improves and the perception of them becomes more mainstream.

Well that would be good news for ND ownership, as until I looked into them I didn’t realise the cost of them, and didn’t realise how long they have been on the road, (my age lol time passes by so quickly)

Since I realised I could afford to buy one, big plus for me! my mates think its worth more than I payed!

Not that I wanted one for any other reason than my previous NB :+1:

Good to know it’s going to be similar to the current latest model.

Motorway says my 2015 22k miles top of the range (at the time) 2.0 ND is worth around £12.5k.

Just speced up a new top of the range car with the same accessories fitted as mine. Comes in just shy of £38k.

To the average man on the street they look pretty much identical.

I think I’ll stick with what I’ve got.

It’s not just the UK market though. Euro counties are on a ban petrol cars by 2035, and of course there are other markets across the globe, too. I mean, totally different company with different money etc, but the GR86 for eg only had, what, 3 or so small windows of sales in the UK (can’t recall the European sales), but still goes on in other parts of the world. Again though, whether its feasible/profitable to build an all new all petrol N(whatever) with such uncertainly on the horizon is another issue. Nice if they did, but I’m with you thinking it’ll be ND4/5 etc rather than a totally new all petrol model.

Similar. My sel-nav, soft top, with no nannies, 17K miles, '18 plate just got a £14,175 (!!) estimate, when I paid £17K pre reg 7 years ago!
I too have been ‘seduced’ looking at new/pre reg ones…but, similar to your analysis, I’d be looking at my ND as a part ex AND another £18-20+ K easy turnaround, for a Homura pre reg. I’ve come to the same conclusion as you.

I think Mazda will mark time somewhat a little bit longer to see where the market goes. I doubt we will get a pure ICE car, it will almost certainly be a BEV or hybrid. Politics and trends in the car world are going to change dramatically over the next 2 or 3 years I think. Cars like the MG Cyberster will indicate whether there is still a worthwhile market in the cheaper end of the 2 seater market. Many young people today don’t have the same connection to cars like previous generations did, cars are seen as more utilitatrian. Take a look at the motorcycle industry, its core audience is a lot older than it ever has been. It’s a changing world, and I am glad I got to enjoy a time where the car was more than a shopping trolley.

Next gen will probably show up around the 40th Anniversary time.

We still have the fast ND due out later this year so not done just yet.

What’s the upcoming fast ND later this year? I’d say I have my nose down on news, but the only thing I’d read is of potentially the 2.5L in a new ‘next generation’, but that isn’t for a while yet, even if it did happen?

The ND could become a mild-hybrid quite easily (in theory) it has the capacitor, it would just need the “conventional” alternator replacing with an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator). The Mazda2 DJ had this technology before it was retired off.

The 12R

Doubt that’ll be mass produced, even more so as the blurb stated 200 units, only for Japan
