oh hearing whispers and rumours of Kei sports cars returning imagine Mazda making a basic MX-5 join the Kei crowd
Your wish is granted. Now the rumour mill no longer says 1.5L, but now 1.3liter:

Next week; 998cc, and the weight is up again.
Maybe Project Kimber will get a kick start.
My wish is twin turbo or supercharged rotary with in being around 700kg mark but look like furai
Should have been posted here rather than starting new thread …whoops…
sorry… so here goes again

Sounds good to me.
Might have saved MG if this had been built instead of the Chinese knocking out TFs (STILL!!) and the 6
Problem was, Project Kimber was a Smart Roadster built in Wales.
The MGTFs that were sold in the UK until recently were built at Longbridge. In the end, SAIC saved MG.
Another ND sketch

If it looks as ugly as that, I won’t be getting one ! That front is about as dreadful as the Z4 (and yet the Z3 was quite tasteful).
Mazda need to retain a broad appeal (and not just cater to young males). Personally I prefer minimalist styling - not “in your face” aggressive looks.
I hope there is no turbo or anything else that makes it (a) expensive (b) less reliable © has a lag effect.
The fun of a MX5 is pushing its limits (legally) on normal roads, and not as a track car (for most people at least).

Yes it was you are quite right but as I recall Kimber were going to get rid of the clever but lacking in longevity engine and the dimwitted semi auto for something more relaible and with a clutch pedal.
As for the Chinese saving MG I will reserve judgement, one of my other forum haunts is AROnline
http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/
and their monthly report on how well MG are doing is not happy reading, if I recall correctly 7 MG 6’s sold last month and very few more TF’s
I am liking the sketch though AT

There's been quite a recent online buzz regarding a rumored next-generation Mazda MX-5.
Many are forecasting a drastically lighter SKYACTIV® body and powerful, efficient (some say turbocharged) engine for the best power-to-weight ratio ever for the roadster.
What's most important to you in a new MX-5? Tell us below, and don't forget to share this post with other MX-5/Miata loyalists!
Some selected responses
Eddie Puah the handling. lightweight make it possible to corner faster than electricity.
Sunf Jay Wu I want White one!
Tim Donovan OK!
VERY important! Make it so the front grill is easy to replace. The
third generation Miata is difficult to replace because the whole
freckin’ front bumper has to be removed. Pretty ridiculous if you ask
me!
Michael Löwe a high heckspoiler
Sue White put a diesel engine in the new cx-5,blow away the competition.
Ryan Gladu 787b in the Miata:)
Jeremy Peace Make
it not look so much like a flipflop wearing hair fliping wrist snaping
person car!! Its a chick/gay man car… no offense to eather girls or
“gay” people but seriously give it some better lines and more apeal to
more people… it has a lot of potential just needs better looks!
Jordan Jorge Harpst an engine slightly better than Bugatti’s
Matthew Swainston Less weight, more power! My 1.8 is slow and it really shouldn’t be in a little car
Jatin Kotecha 300hp would be a good power line, and 4wd would be great,
Michael Pillman FWD
would be nice on the miata, esspessialy in the winter time when it
snows. Best part about the miata is the handling and the sound ![]()
Eddie Lopez Twin
turbo AWD = beast of the east champion on all mazdas!!! Make
it so!!! Separate from ford already!!! If you don’t, I will stop buying
mazdas n stop recommending them as well!
This is how the Homer was designed…

I hate ultra low profile tyres - they make the wheels look too big and they get damaged on the smallest kerb. I see Mazda are (if the above is accurate) following the ugly fashion for clear rear lights (also clear lenses that stick out are apparently fashionable as well in Japan).
Why would you want to make the back of a car look like the front? Next thing they will stick a silly grinning shape there as well!
just had a very horrible thought… I wonder if it has a Diesel variant, you know, 1.9Turbo with 200plus bhp and 300 plus torque ???
sorry all, I mentioned the " D " word. I’ll put my tin hat on !
Autobild might be right/

The all-new Mazda MX-5 will be based on all-new steel spaceframe
architecture, developed under Mazda’s Sky Activ umbrella. The rear-drive
architecture is known internally as S-Platform.Although a switch
to front-drive was considered at an early stage in the project, Mazda
was keen not to alienate its huge base of existing customers and
invested in the new compact rear-drive platform. [phew]The structure
will help Mazda achieve a kerb weight of less than 1000kg, according to
highly-placed Mazda sources. This means it will be more than 15 per cent
lighter than the current lightest MX-5, the soft-top 1.8i SE model. The
MX-5 has gradually got bigger and heavier over its two generations and
Mazda is keen for the model to return to its roots as a lightweight and
agile two-seater, with driving fun as its main priority. The new
MX-5’s powertrains will take advantage of the car’s lightness, meaning
the end for the current weighty 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines.
One Mazda engineering source has said that he would like to see the new
model powered by smaller, naturally aspirated, engines, which will still
offer a competitive power-to-weight ratio.A new direct-injection
1.5-litre Sky Activ petrol unit, developing around 130bhp is expected
to be the entry-level engine. Other sources say that a more powerful,
turbocharged, 1.5-litre engine will also be on the menu. Lightweight
SkyActiv transmissions will also be offered. Other weight saving
measures will include lightweight speakers and a simple cabin storage
bin instead of a glovebox. The new MX-5 will again be available in
soft-top and folding hardtop configurations, but it is not scheduled to
be launched until the middle of the decade, later than the originally
planned launched date of 2013.[not good news]A mildly revised version of the
current MX-5 will be launched at the Geneva motor show in March to keep
it as fresh as possible until the new model arrives.
I’m not sure I can stick 3 years of speculation…
They had better hurry up - before the oil runs out…
- No DSG model I noticed, just a torque convertor with lockup.
I suspect they will officially keep the date in the middle distance until it’s ready, so as to avoid killing sales of the current model.
Looked at the new Hyundai Veloster yesterday - interesting coupe/hatch mixture, but ugly compared to the forthcoming 2+2s from Toyota and Subaru.

That shows the progress of Hyundai; that the major gripe, compared to a Toyota, is that its ugly. Looks are subjective, so that must have Toyota worried.
True, but the Hyundai Coupe has always had a cult following - and a very active forum. I prefer that model’s shape (no longer made).

Really? No accounting for taste.
Try these pictures (what that thing above is - I have no idea).

That heap is the original Hyundai Coupe, before they dropped the “S”.
