These BRACKETS?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: nb2.5
  2. I’m based near: ulster
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _interior brackets lower left side behind pass seat _

MY 2.5 HAS SILLS THAT NEED ATTENTION AND I have it booked in with a local expert welder who knows his way around these mx5 shells, i asked if he had a plasma machine, yes,he says but theres a fire risk… ok i said i’ll pull both seats and lift the carpets away from the inner sills. great and it will save me a couple of hours and your fire risk is gone, so i went ahead yesterday and lifted both seats out and peeled the carpets back after a good hoovering… i discovered 2 rectangle brackets on the rear firewall about where the pass seat would bottom out when being adjusted max rearwards… the rear vertical carpets had been slotted to accomodate these and i wondered what they were for, … it not being an area that would allow much room for anything at all… someone here must know… w

Child seat mounts.

Really!!! ok i’ll lift the angle grinder.

They are ISOFIX brackets for retaining a child seat. They should just be screwed in place.

Should they? Is welding not a recognised method of attachment then?

They were just screwed in on brackets on mine. Makes very much sense for production line assembly.

Interesting, thanks. I took Enjoyabull’s post to be because they are ISOFIX they should be screwed on rather than on the NB they are screwed on.

I would need to check, but believe that welding can only be done in a very controlled manner for the special steel grade required for Isofix mountings.
As you say the NB is a screwed on plate.

guys guys thanks, Now i know what they are and my coarse method of removal is being queried, yes they are screwed in but attached by lock type nuts from the underside of the shell, i think it would be simple to nick them off, inside the car, with a fine 1mm steel cutting disc… tap the screwed ends out and fill the holes with a dab of silicone on plug type grommets…w
