Thrussington Garage, Leicester, any experience good or bad?

Lost faith in my local independent, and these guys seem my nearest mx5 speciallist for general maintenance and a few upgrades.

anyone have any experience of them?

Hi, Try posting in the North East Midlands section. I’m pretty sure some of the guys from NEM have used them.

Colin

Not used them myself but Thrussington have a good reputation.

Martyn,

It would be interesting to know your location.

We too lost confidence in our nearest MX5 specialist and went to Mike at Thrussington last time.  It’s a bit of a drive for us but we spoke to Mike beforehand on the phone and he gave us confidence he would do a good job.  He did a full check of the vehicle for us as well as a full service.  He also arranged for our alloys to be refurbed at a reasonable price, and for the body shop next door to sort some rust for us.  We were pleased with the service we received and will certainly use him again this year.

Hi,

I had all 4 shocks and springs replaced as well as the cambelt, waterpump and outer drive belts on my 1992 mk1 by Thrussington Garage in Sept 2017

Found them very approachable knowledgeable and professional

Work completed on time to the quoted cost

Would definitely recommend

Thanks guys. I’m just outside Loughborough and the garage I wont be using anymore are just a generic workshop, not a specialist.

First rate. I’ve also entrusted him with my Jaguar X350, a car that has a notorious reputation for complexity. A visit to the workshop might include seeing a variety of classics, semi-exotics and exotics on the ramps. Both of my MX5s have been serviced and welded by Mike at Thrussington over the last few years. I’ve spent about £5k with him over the last 3-4 years. He does welding repairs inhouse, and works with a number of local body shops for the final finishing. I travel to him from Leighton Buzzard. Bit like a dentist; you find a good one, then hang on to them.

Note, Mike (Comber Racing) is also heavily into MX5 and other car racing (driving and managing a team), meaning that weekend hours during summer can be a bit hit and miss. He has expanded the number of available mechanics though to deal with this.

Note, as he races MX5s (Mk1, Mk3), he can also supply and fit tyres, and has the equipment for suspension setup.

My son had Thrussington do some chassis welding on his Mk2.5 last year and was very happy with their work. I know you’re looking at independant motor trade rather than franchise dealers, but I take my Mk4 to Sandicliffe and am very happy with them too.

Dec 2018 we had rear sills cut out and refurbed on our Mk2.5, external paint to original condition and a service, cam belt and water pump.

No hesitation scoring 10 out of 10 in all departments. Highly recommend the experience with Thrussington in all respects.

I found all the staff I met and on the phone to be very professional and courteous and Mike clearly knows the MX5 inside out.

Great to find a small business as honest and good as this.
