Tie rod end lock nut

I’m having a bit of a dumb moment. I can’t work out how I’m meant to loosen the locknut for the tie rod end. Do I push down or up on the wrench?

To loosen I’d have to push up but there’s no space between the tie rod end and the the nut, that’s what I can’t get my head round.

so down you need to look at it backwards its tightened against the tie
rod end
