I have just nut and bolt rebuilt a mk1 SC we can’t get the timing to advance whenee pick revs up, 14 on idle but doesn’t advance, any hel appreciate d

Have you jumpered TEN to GND in the diagnostic box?

I assume you are struggling with the adjustment. Base idle and timing require this jumper to be in place.

Two different problems here. Yes you need the diagnostic port link connected to set the ignition timing and base idle, to stop the ignition timing auto adjusting when adjusting these settings on the car.

The original poster is advising that the timing is not auto adjusting when rev’d. If the link is not in then there is an issue.

The OP needs to clear up if the diagnostic port link is in or not when he notices this behaviour from the ignition system.
