TO MX5 MK3 NC (2006, 2007 & 2008) 1.8 OR 2.0 OWNERS

Ah - someone else with a dodgy memory - glad I’m not the only one Barrie.  Too much “Sex and Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll” as a youngster no doubt (that’s my story anyway !).

By the way, don’t let that beautiful car of yours go for £3.5k - it would be a steal !

Oh come on fellas - don’t you think that censoring the word SEX is a bit over-the-top - it’s spoiled my whole joke !

2006 sport, Winning blue, 18000 miles, FSH, loads of chrome bits in excellent condition, undersealed from new, cobra sport back box, owned by me for 7 years, Not sure of value.

That is getting towards but not as bad as Morgans with 18k miles at 11 years old.
My Mk3 is a third car and I have put on 36k miles in 5 years!

You must only take it out say 10 times a year for a 150 mile road trip!

Close, club runs and the odd trip out.

2006 Sport, 100k+ (just)…value irrelevant as it’s worth a lot more to me than I’d get for it…

Mine is 2007, 1.8. 98000 on the clock.

I bought it a year ago for 4000 quid. Until today I’ve spent 2000 quid.

So I guess it is worth 6000 now Simple maths

At 96000 it had new valve seals and piston rings.

Apart that many new things, like wishbones, springs, shock absorbers, tyres, refurbished brake calipers, removing rust from the boot lid, new thermostat, new battery, all fluids  and many maaaaaany more…

It just me: when I hear something knocking I replace that part and 3 more close to it    just in case.

I know, I know it is silly from the economical point of view but I feel now like my car is a brand new.

2006 2.0 Option Pack. 50,000 miles, brilliant black, hardtop, walnut facia and lots of interior and exterior chrome.

Value ? Don’t care, I love it so much she’s not for sale.

Bought my ZSport at six years old and 15k on the clock for £7.5k. Four years later with 32k on the clock I reckon I would get £6k any day of the week. I’m looking at similar cars advertised online and knocking a bit off as advertised price and achieved price are not the same.

Now here’s the thing. That’s 20% depreciation in four years. My brother in law just bought a brand new 4 series BM and probably lost that much as he drove it away from the dealership.

It’s been said many times when looking for a Mk1, buy on condition not age or mileage. Getting to be very much the same with early Mk3s.

Whatever your '06, '07 or '08 Mk3 is worth now, it will be worth pretty damn close to the same price this time next year.

I had always intended to be moving on to an ND about now. Too many issues reported on them for my liking though. If I was in the states with the level of customer service they are receiving I would go for it. Just don’t fancy the high chances of having to bang my head against the Mazda UK brick wall.

The real answer is that a good NC is worth more than pound notes.

2006 2.0 non-sport with leather and a hardtop. I paid £3300 at 91k 18 months ago. Now at 103k, I’d like to think I could probably get a similar price for it.

Sounds great on paper. But the current DIY servicing and repairs bill is £800 and I’ve spent a further £550 on tyres and another £400 on upgrades

I traded  my Silver 2006 2.0 Option Pack in June 2016 – 84,000 miles on the clock, had been used exclusively in Southern Scotland/ Northern England, hence loads of surface rust underneath, but drove really really well. Dealer gave me £2500 against another MX5 Mk3, and put my old one on their forecourt for £4250 – it took them about eight months to shift it.

Must say, looking  the older end of Mk3s at today’s prices  - there is some serious value out there, and £4k would seem to be enough to get a pretty good car.

Thank you all that have taken the time to respond to my questions, I shall leave the my post on the forum for another week to give others a chance to respond.
Once again

Many thanks

Ray ???

For the record:

09/2006 2.0 Sport soft top Galaxy Grey, Leather, Bose, A/C, lowered and full main dealer service history, 78k miles and in very good condition. I paid £4000 15 months ago.

I’ve since added Mk3.5 sport wheels and had a full rust treatment done and added a Cobalt back box and done a further 10k miles

I expect its worth £3-3.5k, but its a keeper and I intend to have a BBR200 kit fitted over the winter for more fun next summer!
