Quite a few car park dings that mean complete panel respray in say three panels also the wheels are getting scabbie.
Best guess is that by the time I get the panels filled and painted is circa £850 plus say £300 for wheel coating that would be £1,150.
With that done say £3,750 as there are hundreds of MX5’s on Autotrader and Ebay and dealers as the Mk3 the model was when MX5 owners started using PCP big time but they tended to be 1.8 soft tops.
Interested in the panels opinion as I may well replace the car next year.
Sell warts an all and let the new owner have a choice of their own wheels and their choice of who paints it for say £2,600 or spend the £1,050 for a nice “finished” car and think that people spending that sort of money only want to make one payment and drive away.
2006 MK 2.0i Sport in Winning bLue, daily driver, just done 100K. Bought it 2.5 years ago at 85k for a tad under 4k. Since then fitted new calipers on front, Cobra Race Sport exhaust, Eibach lowering springs, K&N air filter ()and other bits) and a whole lot cleaner that it was when we got it, but guess its probably only worth 3.5k maximum but then we have no plans to sell at the moment.
2007 ZSport 33k on the clock, lowered , refurbed wheels, Larini Sport Cat and back box (and other bits) - worth a lot more
This could be an interesting, if academic, thread - not only to gauge the mileages that MX-5s of a certain vintage have done, but also to find out how much their owners think they are worth.
I would be surprised if there are many that have topped the 100k mark in mileage, because these machines tend, more often than not, to be summer weekend fun cars, but only replies will tell of course.
Mine ? Well, as my signature below will attest, is a 2008 2.0L Sport Roadster-Coupe in Galaxy grey, with 45,000 on the clock. She is totally standard, ding free (that’s tempting fate I suppose !), and spotless. All the factory-fitted electric ‘toys’ still function properly (tempting fate again !). Value ? Probably, if I’m being realistic, around the £5k mark, but it would be nice to think that she might be worth up to £6k on a good day - depends on buyer of course.
Mine base 1.8 plus option pack, just rolled over into 60k miles territory. Full MDSH until I took over 2 years ago. Single din motorised double din screen head unit, STG full stainless exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, Eibach -30mm springs, chrome alloy 10 spoke wheels, new discs pads allround, excellent matching tyres, K & N panel filter, front fogs/DRL’s, tons of mx5Parts chrome embellishments belts and pulleys changed, engine/diff/gearbox oils recently done, spark plugs changed, FL22 coolant change imminent and brake fluid change to do also. Clean as a whistle underneath, bodywork and paint very nice but does have the odd touched in paint chip No idea of value, it’s worth a lot to me though, it doesn’t owe me and waits patiently in garage unil I decide to use it would I get more fun out of a brand new one? Don’t know about that. I’d like to think £3.5k as it is a very nice car but who knows?
If it helps. Just bought my first 5. A 2006 mk3 1.8 sunlight silver. I believe it to be a base option pack with 88k on the clock. Full dealer history upto about 80k £2250
'55 plate 2.0 Option Pack in black, now with a host of subtle mods, Eibach lowering, RX8 ARBs with new superpro bushes and droplinks, usual service stuff (oils, filters, pads, discs, spark plugs), ‘gunmetal’ NC2 17" alloys, purple vinyl wrapped dash, Kenwood dpx7000 headunit with bluetooth etc, debadged rear bar mazda ‘M’ logo… etc. etc. It’s also had barely any advisories in its life, including the last two being totally clean.
I’d advertise at £3.9k with the mindset to take as close to £3.7k as possible. That being said, it would be a lot of car for the money!
There are some very, very nice cars listed here for not a lot of money in real terms.
Seems like you can buy a very good car for around 3-4k and much better than putting that in to a Corsa!
Barrie, Cast your mind back about 3 weeks ago. Do you remember waving at a black MX5 just before you turned on to the motorway at Morley?? I had missed the turn off and after I waived to a red MX5 I spun round and followed it to the Motorway. Red went right and black went left!
If I’m being honest, I’ve slept since then? My memory is deteriorating too, unfortunately. However, I do try to wave at all the 5’s I see and sometimes I’m in the wife’s A4 avant! That often gets some odd looks back? I live 1/2 mile from that intersection and it’s very likely it was me? Definitely you though Thanks for the heads up, hope you found your way again easy enough?
