The 2003 MX5 1.8 had the TOCHIGI FUJI SUPER LSD fitted, some of them have problems with the differential friction cone tabs tearing off.
I am trying to find a supplier of parts for this differential. Does anyone know of a source for replacement friction cones or even have any other ideas?
Threw mine away and fitted a Torsen type 2
I can see your point and I am also tempted, but I like a good challenge and there must be a way of restoring these LSDs.
Mx5 Tochigi-Fuji lsd rebuilt is a video on youtube. The poster Tapio infers that they can repair a ring with broken tabs. Judging by the amount of interest anyone who comes up with an engineered solution or replacement part could make some money
I wish I could work that fast!
I notice the soft hammer has taken a beating…
I saw the infamous 3 men make light work video. I am not sure an impact driver should be used whilst setting the taper bearings, but hey who am I to say anything I can’t even get the parts to repair one.
I think these guys advertise the repair on ebay but I have not been able to strike up a flowing dialog with them.
They weld the tabs/wings back on.
I always assumed they were hardened steel discs, so welding would remove the hardening. Maybe they are just not hardened?
