Well with a bit of luck that is it for Top Gear. Why ho why can’t we have Fith Gear back. That really nice Vicky Buttler Henderson, now i could watch her putting the cars through their paces. Lets face it J C is a bit over the top.
must admit I record topgear every week but find myself fast forwarding quite large parts of it especially when the item is basically just them being stupid
Top Gear is a must see programme as far as I am concerned, it’s full of controversy, tongue in cheek taunts, all be it stupid it makes me laugh on a Sunday eve. The facts speak for themselves, it is the most widely watch TV programme in the world, many countries have bought the right to air their own versions but nothing they do can touch the U.K version, that’s why the UK version is watched in over 200 countries, it’s also a Guinness world record holder for a TV programme and earns the Beeb a small fortune in airing rights!! Will it all end now? I can’t see it, Jeremy will get a telling off and normal service will be resumed, it would never survive without him!! Of course they could try to remodel the old Top Gear with boring presenters such as William Woollard, Quentin Wilson, Adrian Simpson or even Tony Mason, might know a thing or two about cars but boring to watch. Long live Top Gear and long live the presenters as they are now, the best formula!!
Brian.
Ps, on a happier note, this weekend is Hammer time, can’t wait, go Lewis GO!!
Don’t think of it as a Car show but just as popular entertainment - and it is very popular.
I agree that it is getting rather repetitious and silly at times but it’s a lot better than all the rubbish reality shows that take themselves too seriously. How many more cooking and darning shows do you want?
Let’s face it , the format was getting pretty tired and a little too silly at times. Now we have a chance for a re-vamp with new presenters. How about Chris Evans, James Martin and Jodie Kidd. Eye candy for all as well as experienced presenters and Petrol Heads all at once?
Guy Martin and Chris Evans , now that would be a team!!! ,I never used to miss TopGear till they started to get like a trio of immature public school boys after a pint of shandy
Not a bad selection, but I’d prefer Chris Evans, Guy Martin and Sabine Schmitz on the front line, and then have occasional guest presenters subbing for one of the main three as other commitments etc get in the way, eg Rowan Atkinson, Steve Parrish, David Coulthard, James Martin, Jodie Kidd etc
Yes, I also think it’s time for a change. All good things come to an end eventually, alas.
Outside of the eye candy (although a squealing female doesn’t do it for me personally), Fifth Gear is as dull as dishwater. They’ve essentially copied Top Gear and tried to make it more high brow but failed. Tiff Needell is long past his best by date and the two other fellas are just plain tedious.
Top Gear is silly but entertaining. It probably needs a revamp but I think it could be done keeping the same presenters. No-one takes Clarkson seriously except Daily Mail readers. Viewing figures and royalties don’t lie. It’s extremely popular for a reason and I don’t the BBC is so stupid it would throw out it’s best TV programme.
What I don’t understand is why the BBC has never censored it. I can’t remember if they actually produce it but surely someone reviews it before broadcast and looks out for potentially controversial or offensive content? That’s basic quality assurance and risk management. All the other incidents, the Falklands number plate, alleged racist slurs etc were, IMHO, tacitly approved by the BBC when they broadcast the programmes in which case someone at the BBC should also be suspended/sacked for not stopping it. I find Clarkson to be something of a boorish oaf but I can’t help thinking he’s being made a bit of a scapegoat for the failings of others within the Beeb.
The difficulty people have with top gear is that they still think of it as a car show, which it is not. It is now a comedy show that happens to have cars in it. I love (most) of it.
if you want to see how truly boring and dull a car show can be try watching that new classic car show presented by Jodie (aren’t I wonderful) Kidd and Quentin (I,m even better) Wilson. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Ive no idea why people keep going on about hating Clarkson. If you don,t like him, don’t watch him.
I can,t abide Alan Carr so I simply don,t watch him it’s simple.
Anyway there is really only I person who could replace Clarson in my opinion and thats Brian Johnson.
Fifth Gear. New series not bad. Quite like Tiff, good presenter and a great driver. Vikki B-H always good value.
Wheeler Dealers. Still enjoy it but getting a bit repetitive.
The Classic Car Show. Some great content, Quintin Wilson and Jodie Kidd both good when they are doing the reviews but the ‘chatting on the sofa’ bits are cringe worthy.
For the love of cars. Philip Glenister was superb in this. Really interacted well with enthusiasts and obviously a real petrol head. One of the best car shows ever.
Top Gear. Yes it does seem to be a bit short of new ideas. Maybe a swing back to real reviews would help. However it’s the chemistry, rivalry and teasing between the presenters that makes the program. I can sit and watch it with my wife and she will be chuckling along with me. It’s a great fun program and I hate to think that it might be gone for good.
For me it’s simple. It’s a tv show and you will either love it or hate it. The presenters make every show what it is and the content then adds to it. Top gear has been all about the presenters and the cars came second for many years and I for one enjoyed it. I like fifth gear originally as it was slightly different and had more in-depth reviews but it got dull. In the end it comes down to personal opinion and the fact that most people prefer to watch something comedic and set up (see towie, made in Chelsea and the likes) shows where tv programming is going. People don’t want facts without stupidity unfortunately.
Having said that anything with Guy Martin in it I will watch regardless just because he is a born a bread grafter who gets across his love for what he is talking about.
