Tow strap bolt size

  1. My model of MX-5 is:NC 10’
  2. I’m based near:Chester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Tow strap bolt

Hi guys, I’m booked onto a trackday next week and ordered a toe strap. This doesn’t come with a bolt, I’ve had a quick search but could someone link me to the correct size bolt. I’ve have a nc 3.5. Any help much appreciated
Cheers Chris

I’m not sure that the bolt should be used to tow the car. I thought the bolt was for tying the car down e.g. for shipping.

The AA/RAC guys tow by tying their straps under the car to the chassis/suspension mounts when they load onto tow vehicles etc.

I would check this out fully before towing with the eye or you might bend the front if going up a ramp/hill.

Towed many MX-5’s by the “tie down point”, it will be fine.

Hiya, from an old thread on here;

“ 20 mm diameter with 2.5mm pitch. So 20mm metric standard coarse thread.” Oh, and right hand thread from the looks of it too!

One source,

(I’ll let someone else join in about the unsuitability of A2 stainless bolts)

Zinc plated equivalent here,

Hope that helps?

Morning Roy, I think you’re getting mixed up with earlier models? OP has a mk3.5 and they all have a separate towing eye bolt that screws in to a threaded receiver front and rear of the cars?

Looks like this,

Barrie

Cheers Barrie, much appreciated!

Very noobie question, how do you recover the Tow cover in the grill is it a push pull kinda thing?

Edit - Sorted just needed a bit more force than I thought would be needed : )

Thanks again
