Toyo T1R on ebay.....opinions please

Hi Guys

I am in need of two new rear tyres and currently have good year eagle F1’s alround. Having been told I can no longer get them in the size I need 195/50/R15 82V I read on here a lot of recommendations for the Toyo T1R as a good alternative.

So, are they good tyres for all conditions and UK weather? And are the ones available on ebay a good legitimate buy or not? they seem very cheap on ebay which sets my alarm bells ringing so wondered if I should buy off ebay or not.

The sellers seem like reputable tyre dealers and the price seems really good but would like some others opinions before I go ahead and make the purchase.

Thanks!

Tony

I had some of those in 17’s about a year ago, and they look and drive as well as I would expect for Toyo genuine tyres. As for the Toyos, I find them really grippy in the dry, but not overly happy in the wet or damp. I have not had a full 4 wheel set up done on my car though, so maybe that could be the reason.

I would get Toyos again though.

I bought mine from a very similar seller on ebay in Macclesfield called Tread17 (not sure if the selelrs are related?) Just your typical back street tyre garage. Quick and efficent service.

They are not that cheap really. £29 each from Camskill:

Ok tyre for the money.

as already mentioned , toyos are ok in the dry but i found them lethal in the wet.

I like uniroyal rainsports. Awesome in the dry and even better in the wet.  In the snow we had in Jan they were amazing.

I wouldnt take toyos if they were free… and i generally like free things , but i dont really want to end up in a hedge or the boot of another car.

well all i can say is I bought 4 of  those from Ears who are a very reputable company trading for years ( Escort and rally spares) and have nothing but praise for them both in the dry and the wet . I use my 5 every day and compaared to the old Kumho tyres are a revelation . they worked out cheaper than camskill once post was added to the deal price . My opinion go for it!

I have just two days experience of a full T1-R set on my Mk 3 (17 inch) and the car feels better, less sensitive to road surface than with the O/E Michelins on. Mind though, that there was one odd tyre on, still a Michelin but an 88W rather than 84W on rest of car, so just having all four the same may be some of it. Got mine from BlackCircles.

I ordered 4 Toyo T1R Proxes from Camskill last week (£126.36 incl Delivery) and had them fitted at my local tyre place (DEXEL Tyres) in Lincoln for £15 per tyre this morning.  Comparing prices on the web I thought that this was pretty good value.  The offer on e-Bay looks good for 2 tyres and free fitting, however,  I suppose it just depends on how far away from Macclesfield you are.

By the way I can recommend Camskill, very efficient service ordered late Thursday evening and arrived midday the following Monday (no delivery at the weekend).  Similarly I can recommend Dexel tyres in Lincoln they removed the clip-on wheel weights and rebalanced with stick- ons.  Tried the car on a run and an annoying vibration at 65-70 mph has now disappeared.

Cheers,

John

That’s odd DFR. Our 02 Sport and Mk1 are ToyoT1 shod & aligned and in both cases it’s nigh on impossible to unstick either in the wet unless deliberately hooning it… running 26psi. They do “go off” dramatically at around 75% gone I admit, but I would not have another tyre now apart from perhaps GDs. I find Toyos’ anti-aquaplane habits the best I’ve ever experienced, but I’ve never had the tyres you like though.

I’ve run Toyo for the last 2 year and there great for the price first couple of hundred miles they need to be scrub in. they were better then F1 in the snow i might add as well. id have them again and again.
