Toyos or Yokohamas - opinions please

 Hi,

I need to replace all 4 tyres and have run TR1’s for the last set and ok but wear is an issue. The yohohamas Parada Spec 2 get good reviews and similar prices.

Can anyone give me a MX5 perspective on this purchase please.

Cheers…

It’s all been covered here http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/276.aspx

I really like the Toyo T1R but they wear-out too quickly, I really, really like the Yokohama Parada 2 and they seem to grip just as well wet or dry and look like they may last longer - there`s only one Harry Hill way to sort it out…Angry

Unless of course you are a millionaire, which as you have an MX-5 you probably are not… there is always the very expensive track-day-fast-road compromise of Toyo R888, Yokohama A048R Advan, Dunlop Direza DZ03A, or even the Federal 595RSR`s

Cheers for the replies. I went for the Paradas in the end for a change to the Toyo. First inpresions are favourable and the few miles I’ve done they seem ok. When rain comes and wife not in the car will see what they like…

Many thanks,

How do the Yokahama’s compare noise wise with the T1R?

I have had the Yokohamas on 7Jx15" rims on Lightning MxQueen since May this year and have to say I really like the way they perform - I cannot detect any more road-noise than Toyo T1Rs - they are both very good tyres in that respectThumbs up the only issue I have with the Toyo is that whilst they give great and very predictable grip both the wet and the dry, they just loose tread depth at an all to quick rate. I have also read they give better grip when worn 60%+ but I am yet to find it? If the extra grip is there in the dry, it is very much out-weighed by a big drop-off in wet grip in this country…

Hi Ianh and Taff. So far I have no issues with road noise with the exception they do squeal more than the TR1. Though that does not upset me! Difficult to asses as had the Toyos on for a while but these new Paradas stick like s***t to the road!

Glad I chose them and to be totally shallow the tread pattern is sexy… Woman
