TPS FOR AUTO TO MANUAL CONVERSION EUNOS 1.6

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 1.6
  2. I’m based near: __ULSTER
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ABOVE

OK been running 5 sp for approx 2 years engine rebuilt still using auto manifold and tps set up, but std eunos 1.6 reconditioned cyc head is not auto cams or cam timing, friend locally says did you guys change and fit a B63H eunos ECU i said no still using the auto ecu, he reckons we’re losing 20 brake, car is going very well torquey and revs very cleanly to 7 ish, asked another expereinced 5’er and he reckons that the eunos ecu wont do the job as its required TPS has 3 wire and auto has 4… how do i do that as the plugs are different it seems… yet my research is that the eunos TPS just controls idle and wide open throttle… Wheras auto is controlling kick down etc etc…anyone ???

Andrew at Autolink ( Dumfries) does these in his sleep. Call him . Tell him Robin suggested him…if you need bits he could source them.

Robin thx, Was talking on the web with him yesterday and today the issue is that the ecu i want doesnt mate up with the std auto TPS which is 4 pin ,it requires a 3 pin plug and mine on a eunos auto is 4 pins as i didnt change the manifold, Andrew says thats needs modified wiring and he doesnt do that…hes a good guy and i have lots of bits from him since i got into 5’s… i value his experience… and straight talking…albeit seems that 4 pins gives a more progressive engine response…W

Which ecu are you using? I’m using an me442 on my eunos auto turbo. it works fine with the standard auto variable tps.

A std auto B66B. i wish to change to a B63H… however simply my eunos auto loom will have a plug for a 4 pin TPS which you know is std kit. my guy says the car won’t run well with the change to a B63H, which has a 3 pin TPS PLUG thats why i’m asking…he reckons there some wiring to change. my car has been changed from auto to manual. surely someone in the club who has completed a sucessful auto manual swop has come across this in the past…w

For reference, here are the two tps plugs. Manual 3 pin, auto 4.

I am under the impression that the Auto TPS is used for aftermarket ECUs as it is a variable one rather than just a switch. The later 1800cc Eunos has the four wire TPS as a standard fitment I have used one on my 1800 ITB car for a while.
so unless you are changing your engine loom I suggest you keep the four wire TPS and change the throttle body to suit.

DICKIE, yes i Thought it was like that as well. i dont follow you ref the throttle body change. mine is auto throttle body 4 pin tps and is running my engine very well , what the chap is saying is when i fit the genuine 1.6 B63H eunos ECU its not set up for a 4 pin TPS… So do i need to change the T body to fit the 3 pin TPS??
