I’m currently looking to stick a new set of tyres on the track car and I’m just after peoples views and experiences of various “semi slick” track tyres.
My car is 99% track orientated so don’t care about road noise, wet driving (as have full wets) , tyre life span or cost. All they have to be is road legal so i can use it if needed on the roads.
The car is running 150bhp at the moment but will be receiving a turbo after the last track day of the season so will be upto 240 ish ready for next spring. The car is fully and properly setup and modified everywhere else for track so tyre clearance etc is fine.
Size wise I’ll be running 205 - 50 - 15 or possibly 195 - 50 -15 depending on what’s available in each make.
I’ve ran Yokohama AD08, federal RSR and the dunlop DZ03 so far so have an idea on them but again any input is well recieved. Have yet to run nankang AR1, pirelli p zero trofeo or the toyo R888R. Or any others that people recommend.
It depends what you want from a tyre. While AD08R (now AD08RR) and RS-R are decent tyres, they are actually only UHP road tyres and will be significantly out performed by tyres designed for the track. There will be as many different opinions about tyres as there are tyres, but you will find both me and Mr Roddison will recommend the MRF ZTR tyre as fast, very durable and exceptionally consistent. This is footage from my team mate in the TWP racing car from Silverstone against just about every other brand of track tyre, none of these cars are on AD08 or RS-R as they just would not cut it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=OnD3HOXCGh8

I can’t post it as a link from my phone so need to copy and paste.Â
This is really helpful - reassuring to have a recommendation from somebody who has a class win in their first season on the tyres! I only just acquired my car and I don’t intend racing for at least a year. Car is 2.5 std specs now, but I am building a shopping list and I think these tyres will be top of the list. Price is amazing for tyres with proven performance.
