Track day wheels and tyres for a Nb2.5 Sport

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2002 Sport
  2. I’m based near: West Midlands
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: track day wheels and tyres.

I have a 2002 Sport so it’s got bigger brakes and want an extra set of wheels
And tyres for track days.

What’s your recommendations…

Totally stock suspension etc..

I also have a 2002 Sport on new last year OEM suspension, bushes, arms, Showa shocks, springs with all the nuts and bolts on 16 inch wheels and found this table, https://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html which shows one can save 1.5lbs a wheel by fitting the 2005/5 type 16 inch wheels.

I have since acquired a set and can confirm the ride feels a little less harsh on the newer wheels.

I did look into getting a set of Alutec 16’’ wheel but they turned out to be a bit heavier than the original Sport 16’’ 5 spokes.

Also found Michelin PS3’s feel like they have a little more grip than the Goodyear Assymetrics.

Hope that helps.

Go 15". Cheaper tyres and less unsprung weight.

A set of Enkeis as fitted to many MX5s would do the job nicely and they’re pretty cheap to get hold of now.

Then, wrap them in Nankang NS-2R semi-slicks. They may be pricier than road tyres, but you’re not going to be putting thousands of miles on them, rain or shine.
