Travel on Eurostar/Ferries

Hi I just wonder if any one had ever had any issues with a MX5 being to low to go onto a ferry/Eurostar.

I have a set of Eibach Springs which has lowered the car by around 30mm, I was once told that this might cause a problem on ferries /Eurostar.

Any one else had any issues

Thanks

Phil

Never had a problem with my Mk1, but it’s not been lowered.

Lowered Mk3 (Eibach) and no problem getting on or off Dover/Calais ferries, or Eurotunnel train for that matter… Just take it slow.

Not lowered either, but on the ferry the ramp down is the worst, as you approach the entry to the ferry take it slow and you should be O/K. I have a front airdam, and it will scrape (as I found out) if you make the transition other than dead slow. Same coming off.

Did Eurostar crossing once, with a workmate in his car. On/Off is not a problem, as the transition is pretty level.

Going onto ramp at an angle helps, instead of square on

A group of us went to Holland in 2015 and none of us had a problem on Stenna We are going to Denmark in May  from Harwich and do not expect any problems.

Eurotunnel is fine no problem

Ferry can be difficult so drive on and off very slowley

My 30mm dropped NC1 never had a problem with Eurostar, the ramps are really mild.

I did ground it on lots of things, so it was initially a concern. I never took it on ferries but my NC3 has been on several with no issues, that however is not as low as the earlier car.

This is the best advice. Having had a Caterham 7 you soon learn this is the ONLY way to do it.

30 mm is fine, 35 is a bridge too far! Ferry crew were excellent and spotted that I was heading for a problem, held me back then set ramp at a half way up/down angle and walked me off. Went back to just 30 mm after that!

We have travelled many times both on Eurostar and ferries but not with the mx , but 3 trips with my 7 type kit car were no problem on the ferries, crews are generally well clued up and help if there is a problem Go for it !!
