+1, also annoys me. Another aspect where the ND3 isn’t as good as previous versions. And don’t get me started on all the nannying distractions, bleeps, alarms, steering wobbles, most of which have to be individually reset by deep dives into settings menus every time the car is started…
I wasn’t keen on the dealer’s suggestion that it might need the whole cluster replaced so I didn’t progress it, but with the recent recall and a service due I will ask them again.
Yes my wife’s Kia does it. I hate it when I drive it, but I’ve not heard anywhere that the ND3 has such a system.
I assumed it has lane warning (audible only) like the ND2.
ND3 has it. It’s a pain in the a** - . Audible warning, steering wheel vibrates. visual warning in dash, and eventually tugs at wheel unless you have your indicators on. Also a pain to disable from settings, which then leaves a dash light on and then turns back on every time car is started.
Thanks, this is the first time I’ve heard it explained on the ND3 in this detail.
My ND2 will beep (or a rumble noise as I changed mine in the settings) if you cross a white line without indicating, doesn’t really bother me, as I just indicate before changing lanes - I do a daily motorway commute.
My wife’s old Kia Niro was awful though, it would ‘take over’ the steering as you went round a bend, you didn’t even need to cross a white line, just get within a couple of feet of it. She now has a Kia Ceed which has the same system but seems far less intrusive to me, I don’t remember having to do a tug of war over the wheel with it like I did with the Niro.
Sounds like the ND3 is somewhere between the two. If it only intervenes when crossing a white line without the indicators on I can live with that.
Not so good tugging at the steering wheel when you are on country road, and cut across white lines to shorten corners, obviously being able to see far enough ahead to be able to cut the corner. e.g. taking a right hand bend, try to cut across white line just a bit to straighten corner and you are steered back to the left!
Honestly it is not a problem, the Volvo does all these things plus a few more. You know it will do it when you deviate from the ‘correct’ line deliberately so where is the issue. When you deviate unintentionally it could just save your life and someone else’s.
Life is a compromise so perhaps just get on with it and don’t get hung up on these things.
It’s positively dangerous on narrow lanes which have white lines on the nearside and you have oncoming traffic, the car tries to force you into a head-on collision by steering you away from the line into the middle of the road…
I loathe all the interference from the new MX-5! This is my 3rd MX-5 and I love them, but this is ridiculous. It gives me capital letter warnings to brake as I slowly drive towards stopped traffic, frightened the life out of me the first time…Steers against me if it thinks I’m changing lanes without indicating and yes you can switch that off manually every time you restart the engine but really??
They re obviously looking towards driverless cars but NOT YET please.
I brought one of the last of the ND2’s because the lane departure can be switched off ( and doesn’t come back on unless you turn it on ).
I find the system in the ND3 horrible , if it could be turned off ( and stay off ) then I would have brought an ND3.
My other car is a 2016 Focus which I had thought about getting a newer model Focus.
The other half got a 2023 Fiesta and all the nanny warnings are just as those with the ND3 seem to be getting, with even a warning to check the rear seats for occupants when you turn the engine off……it’s put me off totally upgrading my Focus, I’ll stick with the one that I control and not nagged every minute with collision warnings
