Trying to find Tan trim for 2006 MK3 - Help?

Evening All

I’m trying to get my 2006 gradually returned to great condition, but one of the struggles I’m have is that it’s a Sport model from 2006 with the Tan interior. From what I understand the orange tan used was only from 2006.

First of the questions you might be able to advise on is recolouring of the seats. I’m trying to find some recolour kit or something I can do cost effective at home without having to take to a trim shop. If that’s the only option then it will have to be.

The second is I’m trying to find a replacement trim for the electric window switch which looks like it was replaced at some point with wrong colour or has faded badly over the years. I’ve seen a brand new one at MX5 Parts but £89 plus delivery seems excessive when all I need is the trim. If anybody has seen any tan parts or potential second hand supplier, that would be amazing.

I keep looking around on scrappers and EBay but certainly not common to come up.

Many Thanks

Darren

I’ve seen the fading on the tan interior switches before, must be made from different plastics to the rest of the car.
Now the tan interior I may be able to help. About 2 years ago I bought some red colouring for my seats, I have the interior from the launch edition and the scuffs are pretty much the same on my bolster as yours, probably worse. I ordered some colour balm from the Leather Clinic but they sent the wrong colour, guess what it was a similar colour to your seat. There isn’t any colour indication on the container but I guess no need as it’s see through, picture below for you to compare. I’d call it brown, tan who knows?

It’s yours to try if you want it. On my red seats when they eventually sent out the the correct colour it masks the scuffs but I have to keep applying it every so often. It’s not a complete solution but at least it hides some of the scuffs. A proper job would be to have that section resprayed, it can be done as I had my leather sofa at home done, a small local spray job on a section.

Hi

That would be really appreciated, shall I PM you address and you can let me know postage cost after. Worth a try.

Darren

Yes you can PM your address. :+1:

Just try it on a small scuff see how it matches, no great loss if it doesn’t suit. Rub it in well then buff it off well, do it a few times and let it dry obviously before using the seat.

I had an 2006 trimmed like that which I moved on about 7 or 8 years ago, also remember the switch cluster plastic fading at a different rate.

Good luck with the seat, interested to see how you get on.

Not sure why it’s any different, but sounds like it’s common. Might be difficult to find 2nd hand that isn’t faded.

I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

Have you thought about taking the switch trim off and spraying it? Use a plastic primer first and then have a spray tin made up to match. Various companies do it at around £12 a tin. As an example with this link. Might be worth a go and it won’t fade again.

Could be worth considering, even if it’s not exact it will be much closer than now.
