Trying to track a car down - reg. R457?

I’m trying to find the full reg of the car that my replacement engine came from. It was a mk2 mx5 1.8 rs that was imported.

The import vin is NB8C-101720 and the first 4 digits of the reg is R457, I believe it was scrapped from accident damage in 2013.

I have a video from the original owner of my car but half the reg was blocked.

Anyone have any insights or able to find anything I can’t? I searched the import vin but got very little info apart from the fact it was imported around 2002?

A hell of a coincidence. R457CKO was one of the first Mk2s Mazda UK brought in

Presumably you have gone back to Mazda with the engine number and checked the number corresponds to the VIN.

The engine was removed in 2013 so I doubt that this is the same car…

No, but has the registration been reused (cloned). But the seller won’t tell you the full registration anyhow. Alarm bells ringing. But certainly possible there were two 1998 MX5s R457 xxx

The odds are 1 in 13754.

I’m not concerned there is foul play here, just that the mk2 engine was removed and for some reason the plate was disguised, very common people do that. I have the vin but being an import a hpi check won’t show the reg. I think I’ll have to just accept I can’t find the original car for the engine that’s now in my MK1.
