Twisted Bushes

  1. My model of MX-5 is: MK3.5
  2. I’m based near: Lincolnshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Front suspension bushes

Hello,

I recently had 2 new front springs installed due to failed MOT, however after install the ride height from centre cap to wheel arch is 400mm both sides which I’m aware can be caused by springs not settled but also twisted bushes. I’ve took some pictures of what I believe are the bushes that can raise ride height if twisted and it appears some of them are? Would appreciate if anyone could confirm?

Thanks

They look absolutely goosed to me. Did the garage not mention the condition of them either at the MOT or when they did the job?
They all need replacing. You could slacken off everything and just drop the weight of the car on them to see if the ride height comes closer. I would be questioning whether the springs are the correct ones. Where did they get them and did they compare the free length prior to fitting?
Sorry but your pictures are prompting many questions.

Thanks for speedy response, I supplied the springs myself because I was concerned about aftermarket springs being higher than OEM, they are the same colour dot code that came off the car so I’m satisfied they are the correct spring. No the condition of the bushes was not mentioned, it seems you cannot replace these bushings but a new arm entirely must be replaced. As for the images do these qualify as twisted, causing the increase in ride height?

Let us see what others think so you get a balanced view.

Bushes are available here Suspension Bushes for Mazda MX5 Mk3 3.5 3.75 | MX5parts but they would need ‘fitting’ by a competent technician.

I agree with Mad_Malc on this.
They do look well past their best and really need replacing.
If possible, I would also get the rust sorted while they’re being replaced👍.

Hard to tell from all of the photos but the 1st 2 certainly give the impression of being twisted.
