i own a 2011 Mk3,5 2.0L RC. A full set of Yokohama Blue Earth were transformational. The difference in ride and handling was noticeable as soon as I drove away from the fitting centre. I have had these for a few years - I only do a low annual mileage - but have never lacked confidence in them at any time. The roads where I am are terrible too.
Looking at Rainsports next time, can I ask, what does the car handle like with them fitted. I need something that is good for all year round motoring , but not at the expense of being a little fun to drive enthusiastically if the opportunity arises ![]()
How do you find them in general?
I use to have them on a Japanese import van I used to own.
I strongly dislike the PS5. I’ve had them on two cars now (not the MX-5), and I find them not a patch on PS4. Even get some torque steer on a 114hp car in them lol. Comfort wise they’re fine, but that’s about it imo.
Out of that list I’d probably go Conti Premium Contact 6.
I’ve been enjoying Avon ZV7 on my NC. I went for a set of 215/45 17s, they fit very nicely and were cheaper than 205s for some reason. The speedo seems unaffected by the marginally increased rolling diameter - checking on GPS and against traffic speed signs - unless of course it was under registering beforehand.
The Avons get a good wet rating too. Most importantly I had great fun without shredding them on my last track day! Nice and progressive when they start sliding. On the track. Of course.
