When I bought new tyres about 1.5 years ago the cost was just over £200, I was offered insurance on the tyres for punctures etc at £5 a tyre - I hummed & hawed for a bit and the guy said "it’ll cost you £20 for one puncture, on puncture & you’ve got value, so I took it.
Got back to the car park where I leave my car during the week (work away from home) and one of the tyres was completely flat, I didn’t even try to loosen the nuts at first just phoned ATS and they had arranged for someone to be on the way, less than an hour later they where there. But during that time I tried to loosen the wheel nuts - not a chance even my 16St weight on the wheel brace was doing nothing!
Mechanic came got the wheel off and the spare on and told me where to go to get the puncture sorted - was at the ATS garage 10mins later and had the tyre sorted there and then, what a relief as I was on the clock for a late afternoon medical appointment as well, I made about 3-4 mins late!
So if you’re offered tyre insurance take it - best £20 I’ve ever spent.
Was that a one off premium, or an annual one?
Seems good value @£5 per tyre. A one off payment per tyre as I read it. Not bad at all saying they will come out to you as the OP says.
The offer on the website below says (now) for a 3 year lifespan of the tyre. Prices now start @£6.99 for tyres up to the value of £75 and increases to the price of the tyre.

Yes it was a one off payment, and covers the tyres for 3 years. You get a 100% of the cost of the tyre depending on the tread left, and the percentage saving goes down the less tread if they can’t fix the puncture or if it’s totally goosed.
Definitely worth paying the cost of the insurance IMO.
So turns out the puncture wasn’t fixed - guy couldn’t find it at the time & reckoned it must have come off the beading - resealed it & re-inflated.
Sat morning it was soft - put some air in it and went to get my rear callipers replaced (already booked in for them). Picked her up 2.5hrs later & the short 30min drive home it was going soft again. Put more air in took it back to ATS they couldn’t find the puncture but luckily I already had - it was on the side wall so the tyre was goosed.
No replacements the same as on all 4 so it’ll be Frid/Sat before I get it replaced - driving on that space saver & being limited to 50mph max is painful !
But here’s a question - the new tyre will have 8mm tread the one on the other side will have 6mm tread (both on the rear axle) not sure what the tread on the fronts are but assuming 6mm as all tyres bought at the same time. So should I put the new one on the front or move one of the fronts (I’m assuming as rear wheel drive) they’ll possibly have a little more than 6mm tread or am I over thinking it?
I would leave the front alone as more critical and currently ideal setup.
Just put the new tyre on the rear.
Given the small amount of difference in the same tyre, you will not notice it.
This one has been discussed recently and a few varying answers. I agree with the above.
Thanks for the replies guys - my thoughts where to ask the guys at ATS se what they said & then the mechanic who did my rear callipers & see what he said - but only after I had some input from folk on here who will have undoubtedly be through the same or similar in the past.
Much more inclined to follow advice from on here & from the mechanic
Thanks ![]()
New tyres always on the rear. Some manufacturers will have an explanation of why on their website.
Nah yer aright Dan
You wouldn’t insure me as I used her as a daily drive so I wouldn’t even consider your tyre insurance!
Presumably the ATS tyre insurance is “one repair per tyre”?
i.e. if you got a puncture in that same tyre again, they wouldn’t repair it under the insurance as you’ve already had your free fix for that tyre?
Or is it for the lifetime of the tyre? i.e. I keep puncturing it and they keep repairing it/replace it - all for £5?
If it’s the latter then I agree, a good deal.
Even if it wasn’t the latter it’s still a good deal £5 for one tyre has just saved me in the region of £80!
