Tyre pressure for 205/40/17s

Hello, can anyone recomend the correct tyre pressure for 205/45/17s?

Neil

26psi

Cheers, I have them at 32, no wonder it skittles around!

Neil

i’ve got mine set to 32Front and 30Rear.

My rims are a stock 17"x7". The Mazda factory settings for the 205x40x17’s on a stock SE Turbo are 29# front and 32# rear.

As every other MX5 seems to leave the factory on 26# settings all round … take your pick according to the set-up. However, I would NEVER go down to 26# because they would be under-inflated according to my Sevice Manual, the Driver’s Handbook & the tyre pressure list in the door jam.

I think we are discussing entirely different models; recommondations for NB tyre pressures do not apply to NCs and vice versa. They are entirely different beasts, with virtually no copmmonality. BBit like recommending tyres pressures on a Mini, based on what is done for a Jag.

I did mention my model and went on to say ‘according to your set-up’; since nobody else mentioned a model anywhere! [:(]

Hi, fair do.  My car is a 1.6 Mk2 runing on 17" OZ alloy wheels.  It just seems so “skittish”.  I had new suspension http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/1471 put on and then a wheel check at WIM.  Thats why I am fiddling with tyre pressures now.  Cheers Neil

This is a very late reply but the question is still a very good question

i asked the sames thing today in three differant tyre fitting centers and not one person gave a good reply to the question

of a 1999 mx5 with 205/40/17s

i have run mine or 25psi all round for the last twelve months and she seems to be ok

but is that the correct preasure ?

i think it is just about right

thanks

The answers are already posted. Since you are not using a standard Mazda size for your model how can you expect a “correct” answer from the tyre fitting centres?

I’m running the same set up 205/40/17, i run at about 27…  when 1st had them fitted , had 32 in and i nearly wet my pants… love the look of the 17teens thro… Cool

plus running toyos proxes T1r.

hope that helps

If they are going to sell me the tyre,s and wheels

i EXPECT to be told the preasure and options to inflate to

for differant conditions even if the i am going non standard size

they are ment to be the experts not me!!!
