They are not easy to find online. I found a supplier in Holland €6 which is reasonable, however €35 shipping fee
I will ask dealer when I collect the car.
Thanks for looking

Got the car back.
Apparently both front wheels had puntures. These were repaired, I’m not convinced this is a solution on these type of tyres. Advice?
The rear, they could not find anything wrong, so I will monitor that.
I think I should just stump up from my own pocket for a full set of new tyres, but I feel garage should be contributing as car was sold with what must have been a known tyre issue. The wheels didnt look right when I collected it, though it was dark so I thought they’re probably ok and look properly when home.
Regarding door insert. Mazda ordered, only £7. A bit of lessons learnt for me
Again thanks for all the added info and advice. Its been a great help.
So are you saying that both front tyres had punctures which had been repaired BEFORE selling you the car?
Or are you saying that the garage found the punctures and has just repaired them?
If it’s the first then I would negotiate a contribution towards them.
The second scenario is more difficult unless you can prove perhaps that they were loosing pressure more or less straight after taking delivery.
A pain, but comes a point where (as you say) just buy some decent tyres to put on.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Result re the door insert.
The tyre pressure warning light came on soon after I collected the car. U have a short drive from garage to home. Only a few miles.
I went out a couple of hours later and went and got the pressures checked with a digital compressor and the pressures were all different all around, ranging from 40 - 20 psi. Were some overinflated to keep them from going down quickly ? I dont know.
Was it repaired before? I dont know.
Why was there black stuff applied around the tyre rims of affected wheels? I don’t know.
I’m certain it was like this when collected. Can I prove? No
Yes, Im looking at tyres as we speak. I might as well change all 4 and start fresh.
If the tyres are of different brands I’d be changing them anyway for a matching set. A favourite with dealers, and why should they be bothered, is to stick any tyre on if it’s deemed not good enough come sale time, it probably won’t match the others.
Same with some outfits fitting tyres, pump them up to the max it’ll probably get back to the owner with over inflated tyres.
Yes, I agree
Hiya MickAP and Mrs MickAP
Not guilty me lord…never been to Derbyshire
BUT as you both know there is tradition on this site to wave to other MX-5 drivers…it was probably simply that [unless Mick…you old rogue…JOKING…JUST JOKING !!! ]
Meanwhile totally with you re ‘Senior Moment at the ATM’
I have a mild panic moment at the Checkout when they say ‘It wants your Card and PIN number’ as opposed to Contactless.
Because I know I have ‘Senior Moments’ and imagine one day I won’t be able to remember me PIN
And usually when I met a neighbour walking her dog I say ‘Hi Barney’ and get a bum waggle in return…the other morning couldn’t remember the dogs name !!
Thank you for supporting TD-W who is new to our Forum
I’m pretty annoyed on your behalf to say the least
I mean what org sells a vehicle with duff tyres …clearly not a decent one
I empathise with you re ‘just get a new set’ and lesson learnt
Can you provide negative feedback on their site ?
Hi Bullit2005,
I have sent an email this morning to the actual Sales person in Glasgow. My last attempt to get something out of them If they at least provide 2 new tyres, I’ll happy pay for the additional 2, which I think is fair
to have a full matching set. It’s not putting me off my new car though, which is a fabulous fun car and a car I wanted for so long
I’ve been looking through conversations on here regarding tyres and whats a good tyre for my new baby car. I see the Kumho has been highly praised by members. I have a mk4 (2018) RF 2.0 sport nav, just incase it varies for differing models/years.
Totally agree…your instinct on fairness is spot on …keep fighting…I would
But can’t advise on best tyres for your RF Mk 4 as Bullit is Mark 2 [NB]
Hopefully other ND owners on here will give you the gen on best tyres for your new car
Meanwhile after all this stress…the FUN
On a lighter note…have you thought about a name for her/him
No I have not thought of a name for her.
I shall have to think about that for something fitting
Kumho Ecsta PS71 are mid price tyres and are pretty reasonable, there are many opinions and I’m sure they will feature here too…
If you are prepared to venture a little bit into the 'shire the very nice Neil provides an exemplary service.

The black gooey stuff sounds like bead sealant, which is either used in high-performance applications or as a repair (some may say bodge) when the bead of the rim is out of round/pitted or the tyre just for some reason won’t mate airtight with the bead. I have had it used a couple of times on a classic car to save a bit of money, which is probably what the dealers/previous owner have done. I have never heard of it liquifying and bubbling out, though, although I’d say it could be possible. Maybe the right sealant wasn’t used or an old tube was used, whatever, it could be possible that it’s defective.
The issue to me is that it sounds like you found the source of the airleak: the bead. You saw the sealant bubbling out? And yet they are telling you that they were punctured. You should have asked them to show you where the punctures had been repaired. Sounds like they are just trying to avoid responsibility, as you can pick up a puncture from anywhere, whereas your bead sealant bubbling out means the tyres are not fitted correctly, therefore the car they sold you is not roadworthy. Do they know about your tyre pressure light coming on? Do you know anybody that can connect to the car and retrieve the appropriate logs that will show when that light came on if not? Hopefully they have not been in there and tampered with it when you had the car back with them.
If you have proof that there was fault with the car pretty much as soon as you bought it, you are well within your consumer rights to demand repair at no cost to yourself or to outright return the car. DO NOT settle for this at your own expense.
2 links for you:
Consumer Rights Act 2015 - Explanatory Notes (1 minute read)
Accepting returns and giving refunds: the law - GOV.UK (10 minute maybe read by WELL WORTH IT)
The law is on your side completely, as they are a business and you are a private individual. EVERY car dealer (in my humble opinion) is a right bleedin’ merchant and is making thousands on every car by ripping off the person/place they got it from, then ripping off the person that buys it. Shove the law down their greedy throats and get yourself 4 YES FOUR BRAND NEW TYRES AT THEIR EXPENSE
Sorry but that is unfair and simply not true.
Maybe the odd few…
They do not make thousands on a sale and sometimes just a few hundred pounds.
After all a business has to make a profit!
Don’t get me wrong, I am on the OP’s side here, but the car was repaired and accepted by her.
As if you read your links properly they have complied with the Acts/Law, (repaired or replaced)
She didn’t want to reject the car simply on the tyres.
Tyres are always a negotiating point when buying a car in my opinion.
As you have stated “You can pick up a puncture anywhere”, which as I said before makes life a bit tricky.
After all they are a consumable part of the car and they have no obligation whatsoever to sell a second hand car with brand new tyres fitted.
Likewise, the car is a 6+ years old and the tyres were MOT legal (at the time).
She loves her car and is doing perhaps what the vast majority of us would do and try “negotiating” for a payment good will gesture.
It’s important to make the car safe and just put 4 new ones on and move on with life and enjoy it.
A few posts on here about second hand cars with tyres etc etc
Just an opinion, all the best.
Yes, I accepted the repair on the condition of monitoring the tyres. Hopefully they will kerp me going for a few more weeks.
I plan to change full set late March for Spring.
Currently, the tyres aside from the pressure issues are ok and are a matching set. A make ive never heard before, however they are all the same.
Im happy with everything else and no plans to give the car up due to tyres. It would be easier to just sort myself. Its annoying to have to do, however, yes I do accept. I was hopeful they might meet me half way, we will see.
Thank all once again. You’re a very enthusiast passionate bunch and helpful
Can I just say that, as an owner of 3 MX5s over the past 10 years or so, I’ve had many different makes/types of tyre but the ones which are head-and-shoulders better that owt else I’ve had are Goodyear Assymetric 5s. Absolutely transformed the handling and feel of my current car after changing from the OE Bridgestones.
Massive wet or dry grip, and the current set have done over 20,000 (very enthusiastic) miles all over Europe.
Wait for Halfords/National Tyres to offer 15% or 20% off 4 tyres and they can be actually cheaper than Kumhos or other mid-range stuff and are wayyy better, IMO.
The only major brand I haven’t tried is Michelin PS4/PS5 - I may try them next perhaps.
Thank you.
I have noted the information
Thanks
I will keep this in mind and look out for special offers. If getting high end for mid range price its a no brainer, plus many miles is good.
‘You’re a very enthusiastic passionate bunch and helpful’
Hi again TD-W
Yep just to forewarn you that owning an MX-5 can become quite addictive …so steady girl
Also to forewarn you when I first joined and asked another member what he called his MX-5 he replied
Miss Moneypit
I think I read above that this has been a car you’ve dreamed of owning…so be aware you are vulnerable to becoming addicted
I’ve found Membership helpful [my DD is currently £36.00 p.a.] and with that comes a Mag every two months; yearly wall calendar and various discounts from a range of organisations from parts to repairs to insurance etc [No…I’m not on commission]
Meanwhile what I’m looking forward to is you’ve hopefully got the dealer to ‘met you half way’ re your tyres
And you are having fun, fun, fun in your girl/boy after all the aggro
Kindest
