Tyre valves

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _PRHT

Probably a daft question but, here goes…

I checked my type pressures today and found that the valve on the rear driver side has damage to the metal tip, which appears to have a half-moon piece chipped off from the rim like a smill bite from an apple. Subsequently, when topping up the air there is leakage as the pressure wand doesn’t fully seal around the valve tip (no leakage from the valve when not refilling though).

My tyres all have lots of tread and life left in them - can I get the valve replaced without a new tyre being fitted?

Short answer is yes. Even easier if it’s a rubber valve rather than a metal one.

Absolutely, get along to your usual tyre outlet. They’ll treat it as a repair and will have to rebalance the wheel, it’ll probably cost you around £25.

If it’s not leaking, and you can manage to get air in , then I’d probably not bother personally.
