hi just don’t know are good for the mx 5

i know for my toyota supra i find the Bridgestone potenza tyre great and also the fallen are good until half way through the tread then they become unstable,i also had the toyo t1s on it and they was rubbish just to soft and so much side wall movement

so was looking for recommendations thats all

You’ll find that most everybody has their own favourite.  No-one’s right, and no-one’s wrong.

The recommendation is to ask Nick D - who’s our resident tyre expert on these forums.  What he doesn’t know about MX-5 boots isn’t worth knowing.

Goodyear efficient’s ,great tyre

I read recommendations for the Kumho Ecsta HS51, so when I needed one of the tires replaced I went for that.

Don’t know how beneficial just one is (the other tires are mixed brands from the previous owner) but one was all I could afford

So now you have 4 DIFFERENT tyres each with DIFFERENT ages and DIFFERENT characteristics!  Rather you than me!!!

Whats your driving style? Do you value wet grip highly?

There are lots of tyres that get recommended. Nick D has done a test which shows the Kuhmo Ecsta HS51 agains Toyo t1r

Had the fitted my wheels I would have ordered a set. But I am going with another highly recommended tyre, the Vredestein Sportrac 5.

my driving style is fairly hard i like to push the car around corners a lot in the dry not so much in the wet (hardly use it in wet).

First of all have a search around this very forum, you will find loads of discussion and opinion on tyres for 5s.  I have had Toyo T1Rs in different sizes on different 5s and always thought they were great, i still have no issues with them at all.  However lots of reading and listening suggested they were getting a bit dated and that there were better options so about 12 months ago on my 2.5 sport, with same size wheels as your I changed to the kumho ecsta le sport ku39. Those are often recommended and a lot of members now have them and like them. The ride was implved after the change although my old Toyos were very worn and the rubber old and hard so I put most of the change down to fresh rubber and more tread. I’ve now driven several thousands miles over some very different roads in several countries with the Khumos and they have been fine, no issues at all with grip etc.

However I think the Khumos overall give a stiffer ride than the toyos did when they were new, maybe because they are an XL (extra load ). I ma now experimenting with tyre pressures as always ran the Toyos a few psi over the recommended, not sure thats such a godo idea with the Khumo.

So there you have it, my opinion.

There is another Khumo also often fitted to 5s a lot, (the HS51) you will find that mentioned on here, and Rainsports are the other very popular choice.

You use your car much as I do. I have THESE and wouldn’t fit anything else

The Kumho’s are a good tyre for the money.

I sell them for £57 each delivered to anywhere in the U.K.

If that’s an NC you have with 16 inch wheels, surely the correct size is 205/50/16?

Hi,
End of 2015 bought a low mileage (6K) 2011 NC3.5 which still had its original tyres on - they were 6mm & had splits all around the circumference so I assume they actually were there from sale (codes dated to 2010!). Replaced these ASAP with some Marshal MU11 ones after being told ‘they were the same company as Kumho and recommended’. Then spent a year wondering why people raved about MX5 handling. It wasn’t good, really slippery and unpredictable.

Changed to Kuhmo HS51 this year after a particularly slippery drive in the wet and it’s like night and day. Transformed the handling. It’s only 1.8 and I don’t push it.
