There is (was?) a UK company offering a full rebuild of the ND gearbox. they had a website, and it had breakdown of ‘‘stage 1, 2 3’’ of their services. i.e, new pinions, stronger bearings, cryo parts etc. and you could put in your own gearnox as a core exchange.
i cant find them anymore. Have they gone bust, or am i just not finding them on my searches?
Wasnt SPS, was a very specific gearbox specialist.
im sure (with core exchange) a full race built gearbox was about £3500. but was definately £ sterling. i know im not invented a memory wasnt Walter (US Side).
In the US, theres a similar brand. wasnt these guys. but same sort of thing. Walter Motosport.
im going to keep digging. i know im not making this up
out of interest Chris, roughly how much? From my understanding, theres quite a lot to it?
; adapter plate, new bespoke flywheel, donnor nc gearbox, donner diff (final drive), labour to fit it all. and then the ecu needs tuning, as the acceleration tables will be incorrect meaning ecu can be caping/puling power under certain conditions. so you must also have an ecutek/veratuner or similar + a tuner to tune.
A ‘hardened’ ND box doesnt sound so bad to me in the face of that
actually now im reading through the Walter website again, maybe it was them. perhaps the site is new. the content/product reads very much the same as i remember.
You could always ask Rodders, I understand that he managed to ‘ruin’ a few early gearboxes and has the know how to improve the longevity of the ND gearbox.
He has an advert in the latest magazine showing 07770565599 as a contact number.
I think Paul Roddison offered a strengthened box, but I’m not sure if he still does. I know which way I’d go these days (just buy a second hand one) the good thing is now more and more are finally appearing on eBay.
I’m a dumbo here, but why would someone want a used ND gearbox, driven on (the host car in) whoever knows what way, when even a new one isn’t the best?!
Because a used one is ~ £500. A new / strengthened one would be easily north of 3k/3.5k, but I guess realistically its still only a cheap option if you have the ability to replace it yourself (I do).
