Maybe i`ll just pinch SWMBOs oven cleaner!!!

Hi Geoff, Where did you get the cool nose cone m8?

Wayne, congratulations on a good response to the competition, I have a tub of TFR in the garage and did think of entering it, but been to busy, aah well least i know where to use it now, I have found it to be very caustic in the past so care and marigolds are required.Angel

Hi Ian

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2L-GENERAL-PURPOSE-GARDEN-PRESSURE-SPRAYER-WEED-KILLER_W0QQitemZ140352334018QQcategoryZ75584QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D34%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D54

I personally use one  of these which you can find in B & Q,wilko’s,etc and depending on how bad the muck is,decides whether i will apply it neat or watered down(neat…bad,50/50…so so,25/75…winter salt)but like you say, there is some caustic in there so rubber gloves is a must, and also be careful of the plastic items,it will clean up the manifold cover , rocker cover and thottle body to a like new look, i have the car on a slant facing forward with the engine running to help the drying out after you have washed it away with an hose pipe.

if you do this every year it gets easier because there will not be as much to get deep into???

Don’t forget to cover that coil pack ,when cleaning the rocker cover and rinsing off do not worry about the water that will go down the spark plug tunnel yet,and when everything has dryed off you will need to respray the moving parts with a bit of wd40 or the sprayers nightmare(which i love)silicone lube spray, only because you have just cleaned everything away, including a light dusting on the rocker cover and throttle body, and just wipe down, the only thing left is to undo the spark plugs one by one out and just let the little bit of water that has found its way down there drop in,and just check the ht lead and spark plug is dry before screwing back home again, now just stand back and look what you have just done…wow

Not everyone will agree with using TFR for this but the people i know that use this, and myself for some 20 odd years swear by it,and the owners that have dropped on my door( that now know my secret)will also give a big thumbs up and wow factor on collection.

Thanks to everyone for joining in my mindless guessing game simply for the fun side, watch this space and i’ll do another one soon, and well done chris and i’ll see you soon, and thanks andrew at autolinkuk.co.uk for your freebies, and charlie for being so kind to let me hijack his post.

Any questions just ask…you know where i am.

Kind regards

 Thanks Wayne.

Good info , and good (but frustrating) entertainment

 good thread

as for the oem plastics under the bonnet, i use powersteering fluid on them to moisturise and keep them dark , shiney and black.

try it …it works

This has been a very amusing thread.  I am a little concerned that with a pH of about 10.5 the Traffic Film Remover may encourage corrosion.

Steam cleaning has also been criticised for introducing too much moisture into bodywork in the past.

I think I’m sticking to elbow grease.

I am delighted with the thread, none the less.  Thank you.

Hi Martin

…no it does not

I have been useing TFR for this for god knows how long and has been used twice a year on my Mk 1 for 9 years now and if you come over here, you are more than welcome to view it and if you find any corrosion on her, you can drive her away free, i do not recommend anything unless i have done it myself and know it works.

There is a lot more products on the market to do this job which will all work just as well,so it is all down to personal preferance and trying to see what you profer best???I swear by TFR and has not let me down yet with all the cars i have sold over the years and work done for other owners.

Regards

Could you clarify this bit? Sounds like it could do some damage if I got this wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

The spark plug wells are deep on the Mx/roadsters 1,2 2.5’s, and water can find it’s way in them, so just to make sure that it is clear and dry, pull the HT leads, dry them if needed, take the plugs out, and any LITTLE bit of water wiil drop in which will do no harm, make sure everything is dry and fit back up, if you leave any water in the wells the spark will arc out to the engine, not the plugs, so she will run like a bag of s**t.

HI, facisnating stuff!! i have bought a bottle of Draper TFR on the strength of this thread. Am i best to dilute and spray it over engine bay or brush on? Also i am very wary of getting water into any electrics so any guidance would be appreciated Thanks

Another easy option - its white vinegar,

It de-greases, cleans, shines, disinfects, de-pongs carpets and seats, revitalises vinyl, cleans rubber, gives you streak free squeaky clean mirrors, windscreens and wiper blades, it also removes calcium deposits, water stains, aluminium bloom and is (literally) cheap as chips and is bio-degradable - use neat or diluted.

Give me a shout and i’ll talk you throught it, you will only need to do this once to clear and clean all the deep dirt, after that you just need to do it with mazda menders magic mix there after, which i was giving away samples of at the scottish rally for owners to try.
