Underbody protection at Lindfield west sussex

 Hi all,

am very keen to get my car done to stop the rust under my car, and to prevent further rusting. I found the above company on line, and was wondering if anyone had used them? and if so were they happy with the job done. I have been quoted £460. this includes taking off the plastic inside the wheel arches, cleaning under the car, rust treatment, and 2 coats of Dinitrol products

please advise

cheers

Most back street garages will just spray wax over rust and mud and people will advise that they got it done for £150.

That would be a waste of £150. To do it properly remove the wheelarch liners etc, clean underside, treat rust and paint those areas, mask brakes etc, apply rustproofing, remove masking , replace wheel arch liners etc.

Doing a good job is very time intensive. Most people will not spend that sort of money.

I consider the price quoted would cover those costs.

Hi folks, for those that may be interested, I dropped off the Mx5 today at Linfield this morning

I got wet driving with the roof down along the M27 in rain so sudden (it was sunny when i set off) and heavy that I had to put on 2nd speed for the wipers…If it had not slowed everyone down on the motorway i swear i would have only got damp at 70 !..anyway off the M27 at Hamble, at the roundabout roof up in 8 seconds and continued roof up until havant…sun out again…so stop, roof down to dry out !

At the garage/workshop was pleased to see Michael waiting for me, reversed straight into a really clean workspace…car up on ramp…a little sucking on the teeth…by me, and michael claiming that it was not so bad, and better than most MX5’s he had seen, he commented that he thought 2 oblong bungs were missing from the seals just forward of the rear wheels on both sides.

They are going to strip off the wheel arch plastics/carpet, and remove the tray under the engine, and one or two bits i don’t know the names for !..then clean it today, let it dry over the weekend, and start the wrapping up of the bits to stay as they are and rust treatment on Monday. should be back togatether again by friday14th for me to pick it up. I have left him a scandisk card for a few photo’s of the work as they go along.

First impressions are that he is most helpful, and proud of his business. Gave me a lift to Haywards Heath Rail station (about 5 mins drive), and said they would pick me up next week.

The work shop was spotless, I asked him how? as I understood it was a very messy job, and he explained they put a very large plastic sheet under the ramps, and do the business, then when all the newspaper protection is removed, it is all collected in/on the sheet rolled up, and disposed of, then the car is given the once over before wheels put back on, cleaned (again) and ready for collection

I shall update once it has been returned to me

I picked up my car yesterday, and am most impressed, it looks brand new underneath, Michael took a shed load of photo’s for me, and when I can work out how to post them I will. It is still a little “sticky” and he said it will take about a week to dry off properly. it smells a wee bit of the “gunk”, but driving home with the roof off did not  smell anything.

He had it for a week, so dropped off on a Friday am, car sprayed/cleaned off, dried over week end, all the undersides that had to be removed/taped up were done Monday, a wee bit of wire brushing/rust treatment done,  sprayed with No. 3125 wax into cavities/sills, and left to dy, then Dintrol 4941 sprayed on, then left overnight, then car put back together ready for me Friday morning when I arrived to pick it up.

£460 on the nose, and one car now ready to receive the new Winter that started last night!

I will try to put on the photo’s when i have the time to up load

cheers james

The smell does go after a while.

I had mine done at the same place soon after I acquired the car. Generally a very good job, but the underseal did get onto one brake which resulted in my Mazda dealer charging me 30 mins extra labour to clean it off when they were replacing the brake pads.
