Hi was wondering what the general consensus was on rust protection seems there are couple of camps one says underseal/ waxoil on most older cars would just be covering over and not really do much seeing as it is non breathing waxoil similar. Or people that say without already doing it to their car would not exist now. Powder coating could be another option not sure anyone tried this. A local garage mx5 company offers various prices but the full waxoil treatment is £4-500.
I have used powder coating or epoxy mastic when I am taking parts off the car like anti roll bars. The important part with any hard coating is the rust removal.
For underbody where rust removal is more of an issue, rust encapsulation/conversion and flexible coatings may prove more effective. I would recommend looking at Buzzweld, Bilt Hamber or Dinitol products.
I was just wondering what products people wanted to praise above other ones. I know Edd china hates underseal as he says it eventually breaks down and let’s in moisture and acts as a barrier to moisture evaporation. So it seems great at covering over rust just before you sell a car but is not a great long term solution to rust which is sometimes already deeper in the chassis/floor than people realise. They just cover it up with underseal.
My local Mazda expert garage says that he won’t underseal the MKI NA model (or even later models) as the treatment causes more rust than it prevents.
Fortunatley my Merlot resides in a heated and dehumdified mancave
Just something to read here, many more articles are available on the net too!
Personally, I’ve used Bilt Hamber products and had good results, especially their Hydrate 80 rust converter where surface rust has been evident

Problem with those type of ads is they are paid for by a rust a proofing product or company. They generalise about stuff and are not independent. So im none the clearer after reading that.
I started this post because i didn’t want to use the “The z club” forum as a guy that posts there a member for about a year was selling his 240z import from Japan that he had owned for a year. During our conversation he mentioned that it was in a heated garage and undersealed l just thought it was a strange thing to do unless you wanted to cover up some rust issues as i had read about underseal trapping moisture in. And i thought being a member he would have known that stuff. So i just made my excuses.
Hmmmm interesting cliche’d comment there! Without digging too deep, over 50% of the twenty comments on that web link I posted, contain no reference whatsoever to any commercial adverts/promotions and some of the remaining points are from magazine contributors/journalists etc rather than manufacturers/retailers of rust treatment products! Anyway you can’t please everybody all the time.
I have referenced Bilt Hamber products that I do have first hand experience of. Might be worth you taking a look there as they do a range of products that might suit your application?
Might also be worth you posting on the z club forum too? Don’t be shy, you know you want to really
Always happy to help!

No i think you are just mistaken you just used a generic type “20 reasons why” these are always supported by an advertiser although quite often well hidden. So don’t be angry i didn’t mean that you were implicated at all in sending me this. You sent it to help me out and there are a lot of stuff on the net about rust. I would have just liked a message from someone telling me why a z forum member well respected by all the comments made about his car for sale would underseal it? Or had i missed something?About undersealing being great? Again apologies
