I have read a fair bit on the web from diy to some very professional undersealing services.
I live in SE London and just wondered if anyone can recommend a good garage to get a reasonable quote. I cannot justify spending £500 which i have been quoted by some of the top end places.
Dandy cars have quoted me between £150-£200. Anyone used them ? What was the job like ?
I have been advised that the car is very clean underneath and as i want to keep it for a while i would like to protect it. have read the article on Mx5 nutz about diy but when i rang the company the guy actually advised against it unless you have access to a garage and ramps.
Its an easy-ish DIY job. I did our cars outside but up on axle stands with Hammerite spray on Waxoyl. Much easier than brushing, very little maksing needed and it looks very tidy when done.
Might be an idea to look for a garage that can be rented for the day; there are more and more of these about. In London, the first was Pitstop, @£80 per day for a bay with a lift, and free access to all tools. But they forbid spraying activities, according to their website. Not sure this includes undersealing. Undersealing is a disgusting job, and half of it always ends up the floor. I can imagine this is preferable standing, rather than lying on your back in semi-darkenss. Also means you can better inspect the areas where the factory inderseal is damaged, and take the same care in repairing, as you would on other parts of the bodywork.
You probably end up using £50-100 in materials, so wouldn’t really save any money on Dandycars, but at least you would know crud and rust hasn’t simply been painted over (or if it has, you’ve only got yourself to blame)
