I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on:
Car’s ride and feel has been transformed after binning the cheap and nasty hoops that were on it when we bought it and putting Uniroyal Rainsports on instead, in 215, rather than 205. Based on what I read here (and elsewhere)
The fitter - OK my local Kwikfit but I’ve been using them for years, on a range of cars, without issue - recommended 32psi per corner, over the gospel of 29psi. The car is quieter, the ride is softer/more forgiving and feels all round more planted. And the drive side rear no longer leaks. Transformed. So all round we’re pretty happy. And accept the five year old ‘get it through an MoT cheaply’ ditchfinders, complete with microcracks in the sidewalls, were junk.
Go on the psi that suits you best. Considering that you are running a slightly wider profile tyre, your tyres may need a little extra puff, esp if tyre walls are of a differnt stiffness
4 psi increase is probably about right there & certainly not enough to suddenly vere off through a hedge backwards
My Mk1 1800 loved these . In the heavy wet it just felt like “just a bit damp” underfoot. But then Ihad both my 5’s lasered with so called fast road settings & by an expert specialist after a 100 % suspension rebuild so I do not know how much that contributed. To be recommended for those in doubt.
Hello,
Undoubtably One of the best tyres around. I’ve had them on my NB running on California wheels for 4 years now.
The all round performance is outstanding wet or dry and the ride on a refurbed standard suspension is also great.
Streets ahead and much better than the Nexens I had on it previously.
Regards
Nic
My local MX5 Guru fitted them to our car. Very happy. He’s a gent who knows all MX5’s inside out, restores many, services loads for mx5 club folk locally and has written books on them. He’s Oliver Wild in East Yorkshire.
