USB and bluetooth in Mk2.5

Looking to add some functionality to our latest Mk2.5(Arctic). With the previous car we swapped out the factory head unit for a single din JVC unit with Bluetooth and MP3 via USB. This time round we want to keep the interior looking as original as possible so I'm looking at fitting an audiolink https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/audiolink-player-mazda-modular-bose-mk2-25-p-971.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=googleshopping&utm_campaign=googlebase&gclid=CjwKCAiAk4XUBRB5EiwAHBLUMVKovvjGHZ-QIWJsXxkeudR6-zJs1ovkAjEe1HULDHS3VIuZIJRTrRoCPI0QAvD_BwE or dension https://www.carcommunications.co.uk/dension-gateway-lite-bt-gbl3ma1a2dp-non-text-mazda-ipod-iphoneusbauxbluetooth-interface-adaptormodule via the cd changer input. The Dension looks to have both Bluetooth and USB but the downside seems to be a less user friendly folder system, whilst with the audolink it looks like either USB or Bluetooth but not both. Does anyone have experience and or views on either of these, or do you know of any other options? (Not those cheap yellow units on ebay that have a host of bad reviews for reliability)Thanks in advance for your input guys

Sorry - I stopped at Hi-Fi! However, with me adding to your request maybe someone else will chip in, your best bet is Richard FX, who seems to be the gen kid at connectivity. If he doesn’t pick up on it, send him a PM, his name often appears.

Hi Paul,

Taking delivery of my 2012 MX5 on monday and want to add the same type of unit as you to play music using a usb memory stick. You can have hundreds of tracks on a single stick. So much better than cd,s. I have looked at xcarlink.co.uk They have an identical unit but cheaper.

Also check out youtube for installation advice.

How have you got on with your installation or has it stalled.

Dennis

Got my 2013 MX5 last week. Has the sat nav and stereo option and in the glovebox there are cables to plug in an ipod and a stick. Both work but it wont play Bluetooth from my phone which is also paired with it. Also if I plug an ipod in it doesn’t seem to turn off when I leave the car and has a flat battery next day.

OK, all fitted, no drama, though I did resort to removing the audio head unit rather than faff about in the tight space by going in behind the (Removed) glove box. looks like we have the 10 CD head unit so 990 tracks on a stick. Only thing I am not sure about is how well the random play is set up, other than that all is good

paulfhome, which solution did you go with in the end; the audiolink or dension?

Hi, I am the same, my wife has a 2012 Venture with sat Nav and Bluetooth but we can not play music from the phone via the Bluetooth into the car, pointless, am I missing something.

My own car (not Mazda) has sat and Bluetooth and as soon as I start the car, the music from my phone will play in the car via the Bluetooth.

Has anyone got a solution to avoid cables, cheers.

I went for the audiolink in the end. got it from MX5parts. They also do a Bluetooth module and a DAB module if either suits better.
