Use of loctite on brake carrier bolts

Hi All, is it common practise to use loctite on the brake carrier bolts for the mk3?

I had a XJS years ago and and the mechanic did not use thread locking fluid and the bolt came undone and completely locked the wheel. Luckily the failure happened whilst parking and not at high speed!

I assume if I use loctite the following would be best;

Blue - medium strength for 6 - 20mm dia - can still be dissasembled with hand tools?

All comments would be appreciated!

Thanks

Derek

Yes definitely Derek. I used that that 243 blue nutlock grade when I did ours. Some sets of pads a few years ago (Saab for me at the time) came with new bolts in the pad set which were pre-coated with locking compound. The torque setting is within a range so I used the lower end as it is normally specified dry but hand tight with a regular combo ring end is about right if you can’t get a socket on them all.

That would be OK for the 10mm, AF M6 bolts that let the caliper float on the caliper brackets.

The large, If I remember 17mm AF bolts, that hold the caliper brakets to the hub upright are tightened to a much higher torque and should be done dry.

You use nut lock if you are worried about a nut or bolt undoing. Stud lock and bearing fix, or what ever it is called are the much stronger ones. It will make zero difference to the clamping force.
