Using a motorbike helmet for trackdays

Hi. I’ve just signed up for MoT’s Car Control Day for which I will need a helmet of some sort. I was thinking of buying a cheap motorbike helmet but wanted which will be fine for that but wanted to know whether motorbike helmets are suffient for proper track days? Any advice on what/where to buy? They look surprisingly cheap on ebay - from £25 new but of coarse I’d rather buy from somewhere where I can try it on first. Thanks.

I’ve only done a few trackdays but bought a full-face motorbike helmet when my uncle worked in a bike shop and could get discount. I didn’t know the ins and outs of exactly what is required but felt that if it was legal and safe for use on the road then it should be OK for track use.

This article gives quite a bit of useful background information;

Not much I can say really that isn’t in that link above except that if I was you I wouldn’t want something on costing £25 between my head and something hard.

Thanks. I’ve had a good read of the Pistonheads article now which is pretty useful. I also had a reply from Nick from MOT who said that using a motorbike helmet for thier trackdays would be ok.

I don’t want to spend much as I don’t expect to use if for more than a couple of trackdays and maybe occassional karting but will definately spend more than £25! Looks like I can get a budget brand (HJC/Nitro etc) for under £100 so something like that would be fine.
