Having spent a couple of days wirebrushing the underside of my eunos I treated it with vactan , the vactan turns black and stops the rusting process but I don’t want to cover it in the dreaded unseal , has anyone here used lanogaurd it appears to be a think coating that doesn’t hide rust
Ment underseal , dam spell check
Hi Robert,
I have just painted the surface rust on mine with Chasis in One (CIO) from Buzzweld and will then be applying Lanoguard which is a thin waxy coating that can be sprayed everywhere.
You have done the rust sealing stage, (I used rust encapsulated for this). You can go straight over with Lanoguard, but I would recommend a chassis paint first.
Having just used CIO it is very good, fast drying and gives a nice mat black finish. 2 litres will be plenty for the underside and sub frames, but decant it into old pots before using first as it dries quickly (at last a
use for those plastic tubs I have been saving for years ).
Final tip use one of those round paint brushes and work it well into the surface. The most difficult bit for me was painting the rear subframe but it looks really good now done.
It is worth doing.
Yes, there is a thread on here somewhere about it.
I tried it for the first time last autumn. Goes on like a spray oil, dries (not fully) to leave a waxy surface feel and seemed to stand up to the winter pretty well.
I would expect to re-apply it every autumn.
I bought one small bottle (1 litre I think), and used about a third of it on the MX5, so applied it to other cars as well. So while it looks expensive on paper, it does go quite far.
I will be using it again, so I guess that means I would recommend it.
Sounds good I’ll get some and get spraying
I’ve just got back from helping my brother pick his Mk3 up from Anand Vaid, the rust treatment guru from north London…
Even after his treatment and a final coat of Raptor bed lining he advised us both to use Lanoguard but at least twice a year.
As he said you can just spray it almost everywhere without the need for masking off.
Good to know he recommended it ,his work is very professional
