Still cheaper than my NA £345 outrageous :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

My NC sport is £385

Hmm. If DVLA ask me for £385 I’ll be peeved but contact them politely.

RAC have given us a table (scroll about a third of the way down the page linked below), and it shows my 2Litre 25AE NC is £335 for its 181gms/km (same as last year).

Note also though that there’s a stealth 1st year/new car tax though (on petrols/diesels). They’re doubling! So an ND, for eg, YOU pay in that brand new car price, currently £255 (on a co2 value per km of 156g). This will double to £510. So essentially the prices of all new cars will go up in accordance. Not on here of course! but many people think that is ‘free’ on a new car, as they they physically don’t pay anything, like they do in year 2+. They do pay, usually more, but it’s ‘in with’ the new car price.
New car prices are bound to increase in accordance as the new VED 1st year price will be ‘absorbed’ by the buyer.

I’d so love to talk about politics now, but I can’t lol

The electric brigade are up in arms because their 2nd year to 5th year road tax will mimic ICE cars.
That means the £40k plus electric cars will move from £0 to £600 a year.

I forgot that the ND was available from 2015 and the 2015 to 2017 cars are emission based VED
I had wrongly used the 1st April 2017 single rate for the ND.

ND 2 ltr up to 2017 is 255!

Oh, what a pity

As I don’t do many miles in my Sport Black, it works out at 7.9p a mile in tax…….
Plus fuel, oils, filters and…… oh yes, huge smiles in the summer😁

Empathy for cost of Road Tax for all Posters whether NA/NB/NC/ND

Because Bullit [NB 2005 1.8 Icon] owned since 2007 and I have been there, worn the T Shirt etc

Until I was classed as Disabled a few years ago

Initially I paid half Road Tax but now No Road Tax as I’m more Cream Crackered

I don’t feel too guilty because we did less than 300 miles last year and not much more in the years preceding

But I’m dismayed about the current cost of Road Tax…especially with the state of the roads/cost of living etc

The whole road tax thing would be much more fair if it was based on miles driven.

I don’t disagree with you :handshake:

Food for Thought for the ‘Powers That Be’

Sliding Scale

But did I read something that said Road Tax revenue isn’t just for upkeep of the roads :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Probably mistaken…lost the plot years ago

And isn’t there something in Insurance about number of miles ??

It just seems common sense to me that if you rarely use the roads [low mileage] you shouldn’t have to be paying full amount of Road Tax and that should go for all Road Users not just Disabled like me

That is why they now call it VED ( Vehicle Excise Duty )
It was their way of re-enforcing that the tax was not for the upkeep of the roads - but a simple tax for using a car on the road.

Thank you

Thought I’d read something somewhere

I’m noticing an Interesting Distinction here between Road Tax and Insurance

Road Tax goes to Govn [Public Finances] few options regarding payments

Insurance goes to Any Company [Private Finances] more options regarding payments

Or maybe a change in terminology to reflect a change in approach over the years of raiding what WAS a tax for the upkeep of vehicle orientated things (upkeep/building or roads etc), to making it a normal tax to pay for everything else, such as Doris’s ‘free’ eye test.

My Volvo V50 will be a staggering £20 a year, up from £0 a year for the last 12 years. As my renewal is end of February I may get one more year of £0 pa…
Makes the £195 for my ND RF just about bearable…

I wonder if you could declare SORN then re tax for a year at the lower price?

I received the Vehicle Tax Reminder for my 25AE this week, and it is indeed for £335. Last year was £320, the year before £290.
