I considering getting an outdoor 1/2 Cover for my ND and wonder if anyone has got one and has a view on whether it works well (or not) at protecting the soft top?
I’ve a cat that loves to sun himself on the nice and warm black soft top while depositing his hairs deep into the piles of the hood
Now I know non cat lovers will shout “SHOOT THE CAT”, but that is not an option. I’m too soft for that, so any comments along those lines will be ignored.
Anyway, Mazda do a 1/2 Car cover that covers the windscreen and hood, and wanted to know how effective it is at covering/protecting the hood.
It was good at keeping the worst of the weather and crud off the roof but I always struggled to secure it properly especially when the wind picked up. I would have a good look at how it secures.
Obviously shooting the cat is not an option, but have you considered just having a water pistol on standby? You don’t actually need to get the cat but just get near. It will take a couple of weeks but the cat will get the idea and not come back in a hurry.
I have a Mazda 1/2 cover on my ND. She sits outdoors on the drive 24/7. We don’t have a cat problem, but we live on the coast and suffer with many many mutant seagulls. I am paranoid about getting a mutant seagull poo on the fabric roof hence I always fit the cover as soon as I park up. It’s actually very good and I would recommend it.
It only takes a minute or so to fit and it folds easily to throw I the boot, taking up very little room. It tethers under the wipers at the front and under the boot at the back. At the sides it velcros under the door mirrors and handles.
It not only protects the roof from cats and mutant seagull poo, but also it protects your drain tubes from cr*p getting in there.
Like what Barry said but mine is a bit different. got mine from mx5parts.co.uk
the elastic stretches after a while but you just need to tie a knot in it to retighten.
had it 2 years now & still ok.
You might consider the thing I use to dissuade the neighbour’s cat from fishing for my goldfish, a PIR water spray. Just be careful how it is aimed to prevent collateral damage.
got mine free with my old mk2, glad i kept it when i sold it. works a treat at keeping the roof dry. (only a patch on top and at the bottom of the rear when i came back from a week away) mine doesnt hang over the boot (not sure any would) so doesnt keep water out of the drains, but this is an old one for a mk1/2 so not sure if a mazda nd specific one would be better?
fastens around the wipers, hooks round the mirrors. velcro to the door handles and then some hooks that i hook to the wires that spring open the boot lid
and when its not on (and dry) it folds/rolls up nicely enough to sit next to the tonneau in the boot
I’ve got the half cover and use it as I think a cat had sat on the roof and now with the cover doesn’t bother so that’s good, works fine easy to fit and remove, and can be fitted to a non clean car
have just also acquired a full cover but haven’t had chance to use as not washed car fully as is needed for covering all car.
