Vibration at nearside door

Hi

Has anyone experienced a vibration noise coming from top of door trim when changing up gears and when on continuous run.

Very distracting when driving!

Dealer says its coming from engine ???

Can anyone help.

I am experiencing a similar noise , at first I put it down to road noise like passing over rippled tarmac but it is now happening intermittently on flat tarmac at about 40-45mph. It only lasts about a second and a half. A vibrating buzz but nothing actually felt through the car. Going to dealer monday…

I have similar at certain revs on my drivers door, turns out the plastic trim at the top of the inner door handle was the culptit

I have similar. Pulling back slightly where the trim touches the window glass will stop it temporarily. The Dealer has fixed it once but it’s back. I’ll get them to have another go next time it goes in for something …

I’m getting a knocking noise from the driver’s door. It gets worse the longer the drive and is apparent on certain bumps and bad road surfaces (which is a lot up here!). Not sure, but it might only be when the roof is up? Had it in once and the dealer couldn’t replicate it. Three techs drove it and still couldn’t hear anything. I was going to test drive it with one of them, but when I turned-up, they’d done one further check of the car up on the lift and found a loose sound-proofing panel underneath. So, they thought they’d fixed it. Will have to back for further investigation .

I’ve had a bit poke around myself, but I can’t tell exactly where its coming from

I had a really irritating buzz coming somewhere from the passenger side of my Mk3 especially when changing gear and on some road surfaces. I tried everything on the forums but to no avail. Eventually traced it to the hood frame running along the top of the passenger window. I did this by gently tapping on the frame and could just hear a slight buzz. If you look at the underneath of the front frame member near where the hinge point connecting it to the rear frame member is (about half way along the window) you will see a rectangular aperture in the plastic cover. Through the aperture you will see the end of the spring and spring anchor point that forms part of the hood “counterbalance” mechanism. It was this spring that was buzzing inside the frame. I stuffed a bit of soft foam up the aperture using a small screwdriver and voila the buzzing went away and has never come back. The foam does not interfere with the hood operation. Hope this helps!

Quikbrew: A knocking noise on a mk4 door? That does not bode well!!!

As Capn Mannering would say   "Stupid boy ".

The vibration is the Lane Deviation Warning System, can be set to beep or rumble apparently… just now trying to figure out turning it off without disabling LDWS.

Note to self must read manual more carefully in future.

Jim,

There is a button on the panel to the lower right of the steering wheel (shows the car between two lines). You can turn the “Lane Deviation Warning” on and off there without having to use the touch screen. just turn it off there unless you are on a Motorway/Dual-Carriageway. A warning symbol will light in the instrument cluster to let you know it is switched off. I too wondered what the hell the rumble was when I crossed a white line!

Thanks. Knew how to turn it off that’s how I realised what it was, having turned it off one day and twigged there was now no noise. Then read the manual. Have now changed it in the Settings to beep rather than rumble.
