Sounds like your wheels might need balancing? This can show up as a rapid “wobbling” of the steering wheel, often happens just at a particular speed.
If you get a vibration at certain speeds and not others that usually means the inbalance of one or both wheels. It could have lost a weight at some point, sometimes they don’t hold very well.
Thank you for your replays I think you are right more likely need balancing , will take it next week
Balance changes as tyre wear, however I am noticing far more of a trend that wheels are not balanced properly in the first place.
I expect you will have what is known as a static balance on your front wheels because this is the quickest option.
Good morning Nick thank you for your replay ,I never heard of a static balance will take it to the garage tomrw think you so much .
Hi Alex,
A static balance is where the wheel and tyre as a whole has weight put at one single point on the rim, usually the inside edge, to simply make that package statically in balance, I.E. there are no heavy points making it rotate.
However the “whole” is made up of lots of light and heavy points and in particular the flanges of the wheel and the bead of the tyre. When these are rotating at speed these heavy points will have different mass and effect on the balance and can act together or against each other giving harmonic balance issue. A dynamic balance will act to balance out heavy points on both flanges while also giving a neural overall balance as well. Without this you can have vibration issues at certain speeds that may disappear at higher speeds etc. It is not as complex as it sounds, it just takes longer and the “cheaper” places will go for the quicker option.
Hi nick thank you so much for your replay I apreciate it , I did take the car today and wheels are balanced
now , your post is very good as I had no idea about a static balance
Thanks again ??
