posted this in body as I need “chassis” info is it possible to decode the chassis plate/ vin number to ascertain model year, engine type etc
Hi,
From the FAQ -
NA1, NB1 or NC1 - These denote the “car line”
8 - Body type - 8 = 2 Door convertible
B, P, C, 6, 8 or F - Engine type: B, C, or 6 = 1600cc: P or 8 = 1800cc: F = 2000cc
2, 5,or 6 - Transmission type: 2 = 5 speed maual: 5 = 4 speed auto: 6 = 6 speed manual
00 - Production plant - 00 = Hiroshima
The last 6 digits is the serial number.
I looked in the Faq’s and did not see it at all many thanks for your help Nigel
Guys, I developed the FAQ index, and have never been completely happy with it. Any ideas for making it easier to find things?
Make the “search” button bigger; many people don’t seem to realise there is a very good search feature on the forum.
I looked through under C for chassis and V for vin number so I expected it to find some thing but I suppose we all call things differently and refer to things differently ie bonnet for us Brits, Hood for all the Yanks do you think you could put a sub line in ?
IE chassis: then subjects or sections that relate to the section ?
IE Brakes : then Bleeding
Abs etc ?
regards rurod
Out of interest I have just searched Vin number in the search box and it pulled up this post at Nigels answer so it has worked for me this time…
I will experiment some more to find info I need .
Thanks for your assistance
