Anyone using the vmaxx coilovers mx5parts are selling? My nc rattles at low speed on bumpy surfaces despite new drop links and general suspension check up, so suspect Bilstein past their best at 70,000 miles.
I recognise that Meisters are only £300 more but this is quite an investment. Also looked at Bilstein refurb but this looks like close to £500. Vmaxx are about £500 plus I could get a few quid for my eibach springs. Not bothered about adjustable damping and not going near a track, so the vmaxx give me what I want, but would like some user feedback please
It’s the best call really replacement of the whole lot. Mine had annoying rattles which were solved by the MeisterR’s.
Can’t help with the Vmaxx I’m afraid👎
I put Vmaxx on a MK2, they were awful. It made the car feel like it had different damping rates front to rear and they just could not deal with high frequency road features.
Dampers should either work or not, if it is rattling I suspect it is something other than the damper.
Thanks nick, actually car feels great on the Bilsteins. They are very clean with no leaks. If I could find the rattle great, but can’t. A few people on various forums, including Mick, have suggested that dampers create rattle. I’m a little concerned with the Vmaxx that it’s not an all new setup, still needing the original top mounting fittings, which could possibly be where the rattle comes from.
The good thing about the meisters is they have everything in the box. feedback from mk3 owners that have fitted them is almost universally positive and the damping is adjustable. They sell on well if you decide to change. If you buy the vmaxx you are stuck with how they are damped which may not be what you imagined. I changed the original billies for meisters 4 years ago and have never regretted it.
I spent quite some time trying to trace the annoying rattles. It wouldn’t rattle over severe humps or potholes just those slightly uneven parts of the road. Lived with it for around two years, checked everything known that could be the cause after searching the internet and reading forums. Even changed all droplinks, still rattled over those uneven roads.
First drive away from having the Meisters fitted was heaven, silence
Thanks guys, oh the groan of financial inevitability…
Not one positive vote for Vmaxx. The number of drivers having installed Meisters and extremely happy has to say it all. New plan, wait until next year, enjoy the way the car currently handles and live with the rattle.
