Volume and tune knob functions swapped on Bose head unit

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2010 NC
  2. I’m based near: UK
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Bose head unit, volume and tune knobs functions are swapped after a battery change. Does anyone know how to fix this, I assume it has changed based on a button I pressed on power on or something. Picture below so you can see exactly which version of the Bose unit it is, car is RHD, not sure if the knobs are swapped on LHD models… but any help appreciated

Welcome to the Forum.

Mine is the same model Bose and have never had this problem, even on a battery change.
Hopefully the answer will ciome in for this👍🏻.
I will keep searching as well.

Thanks, I’ve swapped the battery out a few times (not getting much use due to home working and covid so needed a few charges) but first time this has happened.

Also had the speakers stop working over the winter, joined to see if there were any of this model headunit around, but the warmer weather has fixed that now, but the swapping was before they started working again… did a fair amount of googling but no luck, but could be I’m searching for the wrong thing

There is an onboard diagnostic that covers various aspects of the audio system.

It is however somewhat convoluted to initiate. What you need is the 2009 -14 workshop

manual or the next year version of this :~

Thanks, I’ll see if I can find it, but looks like diagnostics rather than being able to change the setting, if I find something I’ll report back

This video shows the volume and tune buttons to be the same in a LHD car as yours.
If there is a factory reset function you could try that, otherwise disconnecting the battery again might return the correct operation.

Thanks, that makes it even more strange then!

I have tried both those, might leave it disconnected longer and see if that works

If you have steering wheel controls are they transposed too?
Why have you been changing the battery?

Will need to check, battery was re-charged after going flat due to being sat for a while without a proper run

Could use a smart charger if you’ve got power close to the car, save having to remove the battery every time you want to charge.
I sorn my mk3 for 6 months so put a smart charger on beginning of each month overnight does the trick👍

Getting the power outside is the main problem TBH, which I’ll sort out once I get my shed in the garden… however only takes about a minute to remove and replace the battery and it doesn’t need doing very often, especially now summer is approaching
