Vw up! gti…

Anyone on here running an UP! ?
I think I may have ordered one😧 - deal too good to miss - in stock - every option ticked.
What are they like as a third car? Thoughts welcome…

Great little city car.Quite like a Tardis in the front for two people.Excellent fuel economy. Not really a luxurious car but is what you get,a city car with a turn of speed. It really does give the impression of travelling fast.

The up gti always got good reviews. Was considering one for the ‘dog’s car’
Sadly, another 1/4 decent car victim to the eco nutters.

Impressed with ours, a 2018 Beats with upgraded stereo and the 90ps tsi engine. 60mpg, nippy as anything but bodywork is thin and sound insulation is negligible. Hence the upgraded stereo comes in useful.
Fitted roof bars and twin Thule bike racks and the low roofline makes for easy reach.
Bought mine intended for my boys’ use when (if) they get round to driving. Will be sorry to hand it down.
With the extra horsepower and stiffer suspension, the GTI should feel very quick.

Oh and yes, great city car as mentioned above. Easy to park in the smallest of spaces with a good turning circle. Surprisingly practical in 5-door form. Fit plenty in the boot with the double floor and rear seats down. Parked here next to our CRV.

It’s replacing our old Suzuki jeep, (which is the dogs car) and will also be my commuter car during the worst of the winter when I don’t really want to use the RF - salt etc.
I’ve read some good reviews but never driven one any distance. I guess it’ll be much like the SEAT Arosa we had in the early 2000’s but a bit more fun.
I was surprised that the dealer was prepared to haggle as much as he was, (car was specced with every available option and ordered for someone else who pulled out, distance selling regs or something and it’s sitting in the showroom) and I’m sure it won’t be too long before cars like this just aren’t sold in Europe anymore.
I’m sure there’s more behind this ‘semi conductor/ chip shortage is limiting production’ spiel that most manufacturers are touting right now.
Look what Suzuki have done with the range of cars they sell in Europe, slashed it so their total emissions value falls to meet standards and got into bed with Toyota. I’m sure others will follow and cut models and trim levels.
The car market is certainly a mess right now.

Yes, agreed.
I fancied a Vitara Sport once upon a time, to find out they dropped it silently like a stone. The prices ‘back then’ (about 2017) for cars in general seemed much more sensible, too.
What they did to the Swift is astonishing. Not only made the ‘normal’ base one so ugly it was as if someone was doing it for a laugh, but the Sport version, they soon hybrid’ed’ it- dropped 11 or so hp off it, made it heavier, a second slower to 60mpg, and stuck it up to 22K or something lol

And the funniest of the lot was/is that Jimny. A car which people were knocking down the door for and they had to stop/reduce supply due to the emissions eco loon stuff almost as soon as it came out.
Imagine designing a car people are literally having fights over…only to find you have to re-market/design it as a light commercial vehicle :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Private sellers ‘doing a Yaris GR’ and raking in for like 32K lol

What was the deal (if you don’t mind me asking)?

We have been considering a used one but residuals are very very strong

What are they like as a third car ? I’d wager fairly similar to the experience of owning one as first , second or , indeed fourth car . Compact fun , and far better suited for most driving than the 2500 kg SUV so many choose to drive .

What have the eco nutters got to do with it?

Ups are fantastic! They feel very grown up considering their size.

Oh oh
What’s love got to do, got to do with it?

I bought a 3-month old “Groove Up”. Great car, with surprisingly good road holding. It was probably one of the last naturally aspirated ones (75 hp).

I didn’t know about the 300w subwoofer until I looked for the spare wheel!

It’s now my daughter’s car but my son bought an Up GTI and loves it. He keeps it in the boot of his Q7 … OK, just kidding!

Actually got one of these today

picking up Thursday. Fancied a change for a dog runaround. Had a test drive for about 20 miles and it was a good laugh. Full VW service history (and just had a major one with plugs, brake fluid etc), in really good nik (including the wheels), plus a VW 2 yr approved used warrenty. Picking up Thursday, trading in the NISMO RS which is starting to show its age a bit.

Nice. Hold their values, could be a sound investment especially if you got it for a good price.

£12.3K which AutoTrader had as ‘good price’ in green on the site.

It got a 2 yr VW warrenty (not 3rd party) with it, and 2 yrs breakdown cover with home asst too. And they did a major service on it, including brake fluid and spark plugs too (and the prior owner had full service history). It was a £5K turnaround with the part exchange trade in, which overall, I’m ‘happy’ with, if it turns out to be reliable. The mpg so far has been nuts. I topped it up with RON 99 only about 10L to get the tank full, to enable me to do an accurate calculation of the mpg at the next top up. When I did so, it returned 55mpg and that wasn’t driving it sedately either (after the oil temp, which it got on it, said 90 degrees)!
