A very long shot I know but thought I’d try and see if anyone in and around the UK has a Jackson Racing Induction kit for the 1.8 Mk1 kicking about that they are willing to part with. I’d love to know why Jackson Racing stopped making it!
For the fun of it even went ahead and made a video about it.
They are well over rated and well over priced, i bought a MK 1 with one on and it came straight off and sold, they stopped making them for a reason, trust me there is not thousands after these, far better items out there .
M-m
In stock, still made. Thousands were sold and many satisfied customers. Lots of reviews on Miata.net including dyno charts.
The relationship between Moss Europe and Moss is complex. Moss was founded in the late 40s by Al Moss, an MG nut in California. They expanded and expanded, and by 1982, werre buying up job lots of British Leyland spares.
In 1989, they expanded into the UK, buying out Classic British Sportscar Spares (Cox and Bickles, Triumphtune, Sprite & Midget Centre, Naylor Brothers etc).
A few years later, in 1993, Moss Europe was sold to Ingham, and someone made a ton of money. The transaction sucked in M&G, increasing Miss Europe’s share. Moss Europe became Moss International. Moss International. In 1998 there was a management buyout in the UK from Ingham. In 1998, in the US, Glen Adams brough out Moss Motors.
In 2000, Moss International’s warehouse burnt down, and the company went into Receivership. Moss Motors effectively brought this company, and to this day, Moss Europe (reverted to its old name) is owned by Mr Adams.
Moss started selling Miata parts in 1994, and was effectively a supplier to the UK outfit. Until around 2000, the UK catalogue reflected the US catalogue.
Something about the owners of Moss:
Oscar Racing is a speed shop in California, specialist in Hondas and highly regarded. Moss started selling their products way early in the MX5 story, and they were basically the first specialist outside of Japan to do any tuning parts for the MX5 Miata. Eventually the Jackson Racing brand was sold to Moss. I wonder if the reasons Jackson Racing no longer features here is to do with the naming rights, and how Moss is allowed to market parts. Hence they also have their own inhouse performance brand, Cobalt.
They still make the 1.6 one (still listed on Moss Europe’s website), but not for the 1.8. I have one I bought used, it’s very effective and well made. My intake temps are lower than with my previous randall-type cowl arrangement.
The 1.6 version had problems with emissions; the AFM didn’t like being on its side. The later 1.8 version had a reputation for cracking plastic. Moss doesn’t make anything; they have suppliers. I’m guessing they got a better deal from Taiwan for their Cobalt parts.
The intakes you really want are either the full Arc intake or the Autoexe cowl intake.
It’s pretty much the same deal but Its not “badged” as ARC it’s just down as “Very similar” I might buy the kit then get one of those bashed to bits crossovers from ebay. Looks like with the tilt on it the air flow might be a wee bit cooler… even 0.1 degree less heat will make all the difference!
