OK, so with the hot topic Blyton, I doubt anyone will read this but here goes anyway!
Will (son, and definite quicker Earp) and I are running our Mk1 endurance build at Snetterton in July in the Snetterton 360 - thats 360 minutes racing.
The car has been prepared by the engineering and motorsport degree students at Glydwr (Wrexham) Uni and is, well quite capable! The irony is that they’ll all be off for their summer break and so we need a pit crew for the day. Not a greatly onerous task, running the timing and timing board, helping with pit stops, grabbing the odd spanner when something falls off…we’re very much a family team so more an informal, friendly introduction to life in a race paddock rather than a high pressure F1 weekend!
I have my four drivers: Phil Capstick (races in Lotus Europe), Andy Muirhead-Smith (by day a Dr I work with on Helimed but a novice - indeed his first race), Will (his second race after I blooded him at the Race of Remembrance last year) and me (plenty of enthusiasm, zero skill) so a mixed bag from the very good to the unknown.
In class we’re sat almost squarely average and may stand a chance of a podium if the car behaves and we don’t cock up our pit-stops. We also have our race manager, Emma Newman (helped me run the Race of Remembrance last year and very good at barking orders. Especially to errant drivers!)
If Mission Motorsport can secure a car in time we’ll be sharing a garage with the boys (always good for a laugh and you’ll get to meet some very, very special lads and lasses who race regardless of injury).
So really it’s a bit of an invite. I’ll sort entry tickets to whoever is willing to give up their day to come and help and as we plan to stay over Fri/Sat and camp I’ll drag some beers in for Saturday night post-race.
So, if you fancy it please just drop me an email at:
je at missionmotorsport dot org
Anyone that fancies just coming along to attend please also shoiut, I’ll see what I can do about some paddock passes…
Ta muchly
Jon
