Warning about DRFT Automotive in Dudley

Hi, DRFT Automotive based in Dudley advertise in the MX5 magazine. They did some bodywork for me back in 2020 and the paint is now bubbled up and the repairs have failed. They didn’t prep the metalwork properly and used cheap paint. I’m now going to have to pay a fortune to get it all redone. Just wanted to advise other members, think carefully before you use this garage.

Very sorry to hear this.
Hope you get it sorted properly next time. :crossed_fingers:

Finding a reliable repair specialist that can be trusted must be one of the most challenging aspects of owning an MX-5.

When you find someone please let us know.
Cheers,
Guy

Hello Rachel picapica.

Sorry to hear about your failed repair, and I may well get shouted down for this, but you don’t say anywhere in your posting that you’ve taken the car back to DRFT Automotive and pointed out to them that their repair work has not stood the test of time. Not that much time either, in reality.

Might it be worth your while taking your car back to them and seeing what they have to say about the situation?

If you have already approached them and have been fobbed off then please accept my apologies for butting in.

If not - you never know, they may well do something for you to remedy their work.

Either way, I wish you good luck with getting it sorted.

Brian.

Agreed. Give them a chance to rectify it first.

If it’s been a few years it’s difficult to say it was outright poor workmanship but I can get your frustration, I had a similar thing on a corolla bonnet - was a perfect match and great for years then after a freeze one night the sun popped out and beamed down on it zits popped up everywhere due to some trapped moisture that layed long dormant underneath, much like the prht decks.

They may not want to redo it all for free but if you reached out hopefully they could help you out in putting it right. Did you go to them first before coming on here? That could of scuppered any goodwill they may have had.

Sorry to hear about your experience and . Thanks for the heads-up though, When it comes to bodywork, prep and quality materials are key.

Hi, thanks for all the responses. I did contact them and they were completely uninterested. I wouldn’t trust letting them loose on my car again anyway. I’m just in the process of getting a couple of quotes, so fingers crossed my lovely NB will be pimple free again soon. :slightly_smiling_face:
