Washing my Soft Top

Hi All

I have a new Mk4 and just wondering what you all use to wash your soft top? Do you do this every time you wash your car or just now and then?

thanks

Andrew

There are many threads in this section with a wealth of advice on this subject Andy

I just soak mine around every 4th wash, pass a damp sponge over it, rinse off then just finish with a microfibre cloth to just soak any excess water up. It always comes up looking nice and clean, no scrubbing involved.

Mine mainly gets coverd in dust from the garage, must get a cover, or at least a half cover. It’s not a garage queen BTW, gets used frequently.

The top is part of the car and should be washed every time the car is washed.

Yup, I agree.

I would say can be, rather than should be.

If your not going to wash it every time at least brush it . A soft clothes brush would be ideal. Brushing before washing would also be useful.

I’m with Mick but i also have a half cover to keep it safe from the bird shit

Gets hoover’d every car wash. Washed once a month (unless there’s censored stuff on it) and re proofed twice a year. Never let me down ??

Jeff

Same here!

Only bought my car in February. Wash it regularly, but haven’t washed the roof yet. Not really sure what to use for the best. In Halfords earlier and they only had an auto Glyn product, but I wasn’t convinced

Members have mentioned using baby bubble bath stuff as it’s mild and gentle (sounds like an advert we used to watch) that’s of course for the mohair (fabric) roof, if vinyl then it can be ordinary car shampoo, well that’s what I used. Sometimes you need to scrub a little, especially if you get muck around the base of the hood, I used a soft brush or something like an old toothbrush to get down into parts you can’t reach very well.

Just use the same shampoo that you use for the rest of the car.
