Water in drivers footwell (but only the front ?!)

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __2004 1.8 Euphonic
  2. I’m based near: __Southampton
  3. I’m looking for technical help

Bit of an annoying one:
Have a wet carpet in the drivers side footwell.
Hood drains are clear, hood rail all OK - under the seat and parcel shelf and carpet behind seat all bone dry.
Have tightened roof catches, gummipfledged the seals, window shuts tight, can’t see any water ingress with a hose when sat inside
Heater matrix good, no leaks and no loss of coolant
Door seals all look OK and cleaned out the drain from the door seal at the top of the window

So sort of at a loss !!!

Any help or suggestions please, as it’s frustrating the heck out of me !!!

Cheers all.

How about the sill drains either side of jacking points?

Check you don’t have a leak getting into the A pillar then dripping down inside. Or water getting past the door card, any drips from that getting in over the door sill cover?

It’ll almost certainly be the driver’s side scuttle tray grommet.

There are many threads that mention how to fix this!

Alternatively your sill drains on that side are blocked (I see @IanC mentioned that already) and the water is coming up under the sill trim. Likewise many threads on that too

Cheers all will give these a try :+1:

OK, thanks, thought that the scuttle tray grommets were an NC thing? Can’t find a post on this for the MK2.5’s ?

Ah, hadn’t spotted that! Not sure how the NB scuttle tray is fixed, sorry.

This is going to sound mad… Try parking the car around the other way.
Before you try that, check the drain off of the scuttle (between the bottom of the windscreen and the engine compartment, where the wiper mechanism lives). While you have the bonnet open, check the flat surface under the brake master cylinder to see if it is getting wet somehow and if all the rubber grommets are in place.

Yes, worth taking a look at the scuttle drains.
My wife’s Panda suffers badly from blocked scuttle drains, which means the water that should flow away through them ends up in the footwells
My cars an NC though, so I don’t know about NB drainage.
